The long-awaited Democratic health bill that Majority Leader Harry Reid will bring to the Senate floor was unveiled tonight after the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the bill would cost $849, within the $900 billion ceiling set by President Barack Obama.
The bill is a melding of the bills voted out by the Senate’s Finance and Health, Education Labor and Pension committees. Click here to read the full bill.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle responded as expected. Republican Sen. John Thune of South Dakota called it a “monstrosity.” In a statement she issued soon after the bill went on line Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., called t he release of the measure “an important moment for our country.”
More on the bill and health reform:
Senate health bill is outlined by Reid
Why read it when most of our douchebag representatives did not read it and just voted for it because it was Democratic legislation. Please vote all incumbents out of office.
It an extortion bill geared to force the lower middle class and middle class to infuse $50 BILLION new revenue dollars into the corporatocrisy. Your pharmaceutical bill won’t go down a red cent. You will continue to pay 2x-5x more than the rest of the civilized world for your drugs. The corporatocrisy wrote that healthcare reform bill. The legislators just take the bribes and vote ‘aye’. That’s the way your system is designed whether you know it or not. You ham ‘n eggers are about to get scammed again. BIG TIME. Even China sees it. The rest of the civilized world laughs at the stupidity of the american people and what we will tolerate. The truth is not a pleasant thing at times!
I clicked on the sight and it was blank. Is it my computer or the government?
What we don’t know will kill us.
Is this the way the government health care plan will be, click here to find a doctor and it will be blank?
pretty funny… makes you wonder huh?
The Democrats are only trying to help disenfranchised Americans like Mexican immigrants and African Americans who do not have healthcare and who have been left behind by American greed. After all California is only $21 billion in debt due by the end of 2010 … President Obama and the Democrats in Washington are only trying to do the same thing for America.
Ms Boxer may think it’s an important moment for “our” country…..me thinks the definition of “our” needs additional defining! The “TAXPAYERS” world is not the same as government people live in! Vastly different, when one considers that people making $35,000 are supporting someone who is able to retire early-on & receive health benefits @ 100%, pension making close to their last real salary (forever!)..etc, etc, etc!!!!!!…Mind you, this person is making over 6-figures a year…isn’t that a matter of great concern????
Welfare at its worst. The liberals are so worthless.
This bill is a pile of S***.
50% tax rate -
Quality of doctor visit is maybe 25% of Kaiser today -
This bill will destroy Medicare
True and simple This bill will destroy Medicare
DOWN WITH OBAMAMESSIAH!
what would any sane person do if a reputed liar stuck a contract of 2000 pages of legalese under their nose and told them to sign it because it would be good for them?
My fellow American’s we are being screwed. Big business and Wall Street are running the show. Do you think they are concerned about our health care or financial condition? No, it’s all about profits. Our so called political leaders are making deals to secure their power. The American Empire is crumbling, China is our daddy and Obama is the wet nurse.
Rome is burning, sell all your stock buy gold and a gun, the revolution is coming. To quote Gerald Celente, when people that have nothing to lose they lose it.
It is now official you are ALL corrupt morons:
The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775 You have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.
Social Security was established in 1935. You have had 74 years to get it right and it is broke.
Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71 years to get it right and it is broke.
War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years to get it right; .
Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.
Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39 years to get it right and it is broke.
The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before. You had 32 years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED in every “government service” you have shoved down our throats while overspending our tax dollars AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??
You forgot the war on drugs…..billions down the porcelain swirley, 25% of the worlds incarcerated are Americans while we are 5% of the population worldwide…..and we are broke…..but still have money for THAT nonsense…..but can’t afford a decent health care system.
Oh, and so I guess you don’t want a U.S. postal service, or Social Security? We should just do away with them?
Yes we should throw away Social Security. In case you did not know government employees have a choice to pay into the Social Security system. The rest of us do not have that choice. Today we have a choice to give to clinics and hospitals that provide necessary care for the poor. Under Obamacare we will be stripped of that choice. Perhaps your reasoning is a bit foggy from using a substance that numbs your love of freedom and personal responsibility.
writeon makes a good point, why should I donate to the only to receive substandard care when I already donate to charities to support the poor, and/or will receive no reduction in costs than we’re enjoying now?
Nonsense!
“25% of the worlds incarcerated are Americans while we are 5% of the population worldwide”
these statistics seem a bit dubious. I’d love to read the original source. besides, I bet 25% of the “Americans” you cite aren’t really Americans at all. look how many illegals are populating our jails, bursting at the seams.
finally, don’t want to be in jail? fine, don’t commit crimes.

No they aren’t, bps. Check it out.
China has 1.5 billion people with a million incarcerated.
The USA has 350 million people with 2 million incarcerated.
We warehouse people in prison here.
It’s a billion dollar industry for those employed in the justice system.
We, by far, have the largest number of jailed persons in the world.
first and foremost, make jails less comfortable (compare standards in China vs. USA) and see how many people suddenly mind being in prison that didn’t before. this will save billions in two ways, fewer expenditures on amenities, and fewer inmates to house.
Make jails less comfortable???
Never happen, bps.
That’s not profitable for the justice system.
If you ran a business would you want to make it less comfortable for the customers to come into your showroom???
You don’t get it, do ya?
Besides, prisons are a great source of a cheap labor pool.
If our new socialist government thinks they are going to MAKE me buy some criminal insurance company’s health insurance policy, even though I can’t afford it, I only have two words for them….the first one starts with eff, the second starts with wy.
The cost is $900 billion and 65% of the people think our taxes will not go up. Talk about the dumb leading the dumber.
this does is make me very much HATE America.
Destroyed in only 200 years.
The second largest expense for households WILL BE mandated insurance second only to taxes. If you don’t impoverish yourself with this program then you go to jail. Freedom of choice is gone, over.
Poor single working families.
Please pass the Vaseline, Oh were out again?
Nothin like being hosed without any lube by our fearless leaders! Where do I report to be incarcerated with the millions of my fellow Americans. At least I will have the comfort of knowing I will be sharing a cell with good people instead of these idiots that run this nation.
What a major travesty!
hey cool they managed to write it and even have $50 Billion left over! how about that!
great job gang of 6! *clap clap clap*
The Senate bill is not as bad as the House Bill. The House bill starts lowering hospital payments in 2010 and the benefits don’t kick in until 2013. At least the Senate is going to wait until 2013 before it closes half the hospitals in the US. That is if you will be able to find a doctor who is still working. The reason it only costs $890 BILLION is that much of the costs in the later years are being passed to the States. That does not get counted in this bill. We are all going to be broke by 2020 one way or another.
some sort of a revolution is coming….they better start paying attention to the mood of the country….I pray that this does not come to bloodshed
I don’t see anything in this bill that Harry Reid is touting that looks anything like tort reform. Know why? Check Reid’s list on where he gets his campaign donations. You guessed it, Trial Lawyers. Tort reform would bring down the cost of insurance for everyone.
