TV ad attacks Norby in latest mudslinging

November 10th, 2009, 11:37 am · 9 Comments · posted by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter

Alliance for California’s Tomorrow may have pulled the plug on campaign spending to beat Assembly candidate Chris Norby - click here for that story - but another independent group has launched the following ad on cable TV. It shows disgraced former Assemblyman “Open Mike” Duvall’s face morphing into Norby’s face, and paints Norby as disrespectful to women.

I haven’t yet gotten to the bottom of who’s behind the TV ad, but it’s not fellow GOP candidate Linda Ackerman, at least not directly. I’ve been told the ad was done as an “issues” piece rather than a candidate ad, so skirts some of the usual campaign reporting requirements.

Norby is okay. He has his quirks. I don’t consider him a top-notch elected rep but after seeing this act of desperation from Ackermann I would vote for him without a doubt. Ackermann needs to be punished at the polls for this brand of dirty politics. If that’s all she’s got she needs to be defeated by a wide, wide margin. Shame on her for not keeping it above board. She must really be a loser.

If Norby is the best OC republicans can do, I’ll vote for the democrat.
The last think OC needs is another Mike Duvall

  • Art Pedroza says:

Don’t forget who recruited Duvall and got him elected…Dick Ackerman.

  • Rocket says:

That ad is just going to piss people off for insulting their intelligence. I hope that capetbagger Ackerman gets clobbered in the polls. At least we all know Norby but we don’t know Ackerman except that her husband is a RINO of the worst sort.

GET RID OF ALL CAREER POLITICIANS!

  • henrygattis says:

    Martin,

Dick Ackerman just called. You better do a better job shilling. This was kinda weak!

  • Lori says:

Linda Ackerman will be a PUPPET for the Developers of this county (Ellis, Irvine Co.) and of course her own HUSBAND
D&%$ Ackerman…who, at this moment is trying to get his GRUBBY hands on the O.C. Fairgrounds, he and his buddies at the State are figuring out how they can do it without getting found out…can anyone say EMINENT DOMAIN?

Linda and D&%$ Ackerman are also the very definition of CARPETBAGGERS!

Nothing like RENTING a room from a family member to be eligible to run in a DISTRICT YOU DON’T LIVE IN! So if she gets elected, will she actually LIVE where she will be REPRESENTING her district? NO, it will be BACK to Irvine.

Sheesh, This is the political machine at it’s worst.

They and their supporters have a lot of nerve going on the attack…wise up and save your money, ACKERMAN is going to LOSE, people are tired of dirty politics.

Ask LINDA and her husband about this, and then tell me who’s up to NO GOOD:

The County of Orange’s lawyer is calling on the California Attorney General to investigate potential illegal deals that could give private control of the $100 million-plus Orange County Fairgrounds property in Costa Mesa to well-connected political insiders.

In an Oct. 30, 2009, letter to Gary Schons–the state AG’s top-ranking official in Southern California–County Counsel Nicholas S. Chrisos writes, “it appears” that the public board of the state-owned fairgrounds began violating open meeting and conflict-of-interest laws in July by secretly forming a private foundation to bid on the property, secretly naming themselves to the foundation’s private board and hiring–without a bid process–former State Senator Dick Ackerman’s law firm as the private entity’s consultant.

The fair board was so concerned about secrecy it asked Ackerman’s Nossaman, Guthner, Knox and Eliot to create the foundation in July–”eight days before the [law firm's] consulting contract was approved” in public, according to Chrisos.

A July 29 fair board agenda cryptically informed residents that item number 7 concerned the “Governor’s Initiative to Sell Orange County Fair & Event Center.” There was no mention of creating a foundation or spending money to hire related consultants. The fair board routinely blocks open public inspection of its requests for bids by oddly requiring citizens to obtain a password for online access. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to sell valuable public properties in an alleged effort to reduce the state’s multi-billion dollar deficit.

Chrisos provided Schons with other concerns, including that the fair board members “would have a direct personal interest” in the new private foundation’s “financial interests;” and that public funds were illegally used to hire the two law firms for the private foundation. It’s the governor who appoints individuals to state fair boards. In OC, at least, the composition is usually a who’s who of political operatives, consultants or campaign contributors.

Officials at Nossaman told me today that they “handed over” the foundation’s articles of incorporations responsibilities to Jones Day lawyer John R. Beeson. Beeson could not be reached for an interview this afternoon. Jones Day represented sheriff-turned-convicted-felon Mike Carona on federal corruption charges earlier this year.

Will the Malcolm/Ackerman duo team up against the media again on the secretive fair privatization issue?

The BREAKING NEWS is that our County Lawyer is seeking a State Probe into the OC Fair Privatization Plan

We all knew, or should I say suspected that the sleazy politicians were after the land and would do a back room deal and anything else to grab this land out from under anyone.

Let’s just see where this goes if it goes anywhere, these guys have tentacles that go deep into our county’s DA’s Office and further north.

I hope they go down, deep and fast but I am not holding my breath.
