Usually candidates for office need to worry most about raising money to wage their campaigns. For the two Republicans who want to take on Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer next year, their first job is to get Republicans to recognize their names.

Chuck DeVore and Carly Fiorina
In a new USC/LA Times poll released today neither former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina or Irvine Assemblyman Chuck DeVore are known by most in the GOP.
Some key findings:
Name recognition: Boxer: 88 percent; Fiorina: 29 percent; DeVore: 19 percent. Fiorina just announced her candidacy last week but it’s been known for months that she’s running.
Who’s winning in GOP primary: Neither of them. The poll shows Fiorina and DeVore tied at 27 percent each with a whopping 40 percent undecided.
Six in ten of voters, the LA Times reports, said they didn’t know enough about either GOP hopeful to have an impression of them.
Boxer has a 44 percent job approval rating in the poll compared with a 48 percent positive rating for California’s senior Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
And closer to home, Rep. Loretta Sanchezhas a 37 percent name ID and an 18 percent favorable and 12 percent unfavorable rating, reflecting that people up and down the state have little idea of her record.
It’s probably just as well that Sanchez , D-Santa Ana, told me last week that she’s not in the race for governor. When San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom took himself out of the race last week there was some speculation that Sanchez might get in.

One Democratic and one Republican survey firm polled 1,500 registered voters between Oct. 27 and Nov. 3. The margin of error is plus or minute 2.6 percentage points.

I’m waiting to see if anybody has the b@lls to stand up and present their open and honest ideas regarding illegal immigration.
nah, even devore is running scared of the illegals. the last time he opened his mouth on the subject was when he argued about the illegal labor site in Laguna Beach. we saw how that turned out, didn’t we?? hah. imagine that. illegal foreigners have conquered our elected leaders - even the republicans. we’re done, folks. It’s over. put a fork in us!
For gawd sakes. just at a time when Babs Boxer is down on one knee and vulnerable to defeat this is all the GOP can conjure up to bid for her seat??? Devore or Fiorina???
What a waste of a party. Absolutely decrepit. No wonder the nation is falling apart.
At a Lake Forest rally for Chuck DeVore he made it pretty clear he did not support amnesty in any way. It would be unfair for people to step in front on the line where people have been waiting years to do it legally.
I hope that answers your question.
Oh come on. Devore is on the radio all the time. He never talks about illegal immigration. He avoids the topic like the plague. He always writes columns for the OCR. Never about illegal immigration. He has caved and folded on the subject. In a previous article he was quoted to say that all the illegals are going back to mexico so it’s not a big deal anymore. HAH! There are more here now than ever! Why would they go back to Mexico?? There is no safety net there. Here they get free food, housing and education on the backs of the taxpayers. Why the heck would they return to stinking mexico??? Use your common sense!
Anyone has to be better than boxer, she’s shown us how she feels about illegals
Of course she has name recognition in CA, a lot of crazy people have name recognition such as Scott Peterson or Richard Ramirez. She fits right in.
OC, I don’t think your going to find to much campaigning of immigration. I think the main focus of the campaign will we be on Boxer’s record, but DeVore will give you his views on just about anything.
Bob, we are spending $10 billion or more in our taxdollars to support illegal foreigners in Cali every year. WHY WOULDN’T THERE BE ANY CAMPAIGNING ON IMMIGRATION BY THE CANDIDATES!!!! Devore could make it an issue. He should take the lead!!! Boxer won’t. Neither will Fiorina. I heard her on the radio. All she could talk about was her support for a temporary worker program!!!! NOT A WORD ABOUT AMNESTY which means she supports it too! Since a new amnesty bill is right around the corner WHY WOULDN’T ILLEGAL IMMGRATION BE A BIG ISSUE IN THE NEXT ELECTIONS!!!! Why are the politician muffling the topic??? Don’t give any of them a pass, Bob. Especially not Devore. WE EXPECT HIM TO PUSH THE TOPIC. Not doing so would make him a turncoat!
Oc, I know how you feel and I believe we almost always have the same view of politicians. The Republican strategy , which I’m not one, is to focus and campaign on Boxers record. She has made a lot of mistakes, she’s arrogant and a lot of Democrats don’t like her. I worked on the Ronald Reagan for governor and president campaign and trust me, its like a chess game.
The next time DeVore has a local public rally we will have to meet and you can question him personally. My main goal is to get rid of boxer.
I agree with ya, Bob. Babs has to go. She’s worthless. Fiorina is just another RINO. She’s a female Arnold. Not trustworthy. If Devore would only focus on immigration as ONE of his talking points I could get behind him. But he doesn’t even have the nads to talk about it on the radio or write about it in the OCR. He totally avoids it. It should be one of the foremost issues in California. It is with the voters! Why not with the candidates???
Folks railing about immigration are clueless about winning elections. You might wish for immigration crackdowns to be more popular, but they just aren’t.
If Boxer has a 44 percent approval raiting it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that taking a hard right wing stance is a one way ticket to loserville. She is not nearly as ulnerable as you think.
Full disclaimer - I have no problem with Bozer and support her…I think you underestimate how formidable she is in a statewide election…she doesn’t need Orange County to like her.
we need a complete change. fenistein and boxer terrible. not that i really like the others but we need to get his left wing liberal women off the books now. they have ruined enough for long enough. vote them out. anyone is better than these crazy women.
There are not enough people who refuse to collect welfare in this state.
Boxer will go when she feels like it.
The power of the welfare party in this state shows!
