Ethics probe of Sanchez sisters part of panel leak

Reps. Loretta Sanchez and Linda Sanchez

Sanchez sisters eyed by House ethics panel for alleged collusion” is the headline on a Washington Post story that profiles more than 30 lawmakers who are under investigation by the committee charged with investigating representatives.

This story was based on a July report by the committee that summarizes the open investigations. The Post said it obtained the document as a result of a “mistake” by a committee staffer who had software on a computer that allowed the report to become public. The staff member has been fired.

The gist of the report on Reps. Loretta Sanchez, D-Santa Ana and Linda Sanchez, D-Lakewood, has to do with whether the first sisters to serve together in Congress broke House rules when Linda Sanchez  gave jobs to three staffers from Loretta Sanchez’s office.

I asked Loretta Sanchez’s office whether the congresswoman had any reaction to the Post report and they told me they weren’t commenting. The Post reported that Sanchez lawyer Stan Brand told them the two members had sought an ethics opinion in either late 2006 or early 2007.

The report says that this staff transfer happened after Loretta Sanchez’s office was the victim of  an embezzlement scheme. The staffer who perpetrated that heist pleaded guilty to the charges.

It’s been common knowledge for some time that the ethics panel was looking into this.  According to the Post report,  the committee staff had drafted a so-called “closeout letter” on this probe for the chairman and senior republican to review. But because the investigation showed up on the July report, it has not yet been closed.

This might be what most of us have been waiting for!

    • etirpsha says:

Sweet little Loretta do something wrong? Oh, my! Next, you will tell me there is no Santa Claus. Oh, well, in the immortal words of Captain Louis Renault, Casablanca Prefect of Police, upon learning that there was gambling taking place in Rick’s American Bar, “I am shocked!!!”

  • tomasina says:

They both need to be ousted. They are both corrupt, self-centered and not too bright. I don’t believe they won their elections legally. Now that their friend Nativo Lopez is out of the picture they will have to go out and get their own illegals to vote for them. Get rid of them!!!!

    • JT says:

      Bigoted and uninformed.

      • Benson says:

The only reason why bob dornan is no longer in office is because Sanchez spoke to her illegal alien constituents in Spanish and told them she would fight to get them amnesty. Of course all of these low skilled, uneducated mexican’ts dropped their tequila and ran for the local ACORN office to illegally register them to vote. The rest is history. Now the Sanchez sisters will finally be exposed for the corrupt sanctuary city politicians that they are!

        • regularguy7 says:

The only thing better than watching Sanchez kick Dornan’s butt in 1996 was watching her do it again in 1998 after a closely watched election. It’s been a parade of GOP losers ever since. I know many of you are pining away for those thrilling days of yesteryear when whites folks held sway and minorities knew their place. Time to wake up and smell the tortillas, Benson. Those days are gone with the wind. Hispanics are here to stay and that’s true whether the Sanchez sisters win or lose.

  • Gentwelve says:

They will clain that, as Latinos, corruption is part of their “cultural” values and will claim ignorance.

    • abcd says:

How dare you insult the Latino culture as being corrupt and ignorant! Why don’t you go back to school, so that you could learn how to spell, “claim” correctly!!

      • tre says:

Why don’t you go back to a mexican school and learn how to correctly place punctuation marks!

      • Gentwelve says:

Oops sorry I missed the “m” key, what an ignorant white mf’er I must be! You BSF’s are irrelevant and worthless.

      • etirpsha says:

If the Latino culture isn’t so corrupt, why doesn’t Mexico, a rich country and among the leading oil exporters, provide schooling, health services and opportunities for its people instead of giving them “emergency packs” that enable them to enter the U.S. illegally? Well, first, they do not want to share the wealth in any way, and two, if they did not get rid of the poor and impoverished souls, that would have a real revolution that would make 1915 look like partty cakes.

        • regularguy7 says:

Good point etirpsha! So what do we do? Break our own immigration laws and hire all of these impoverished souls. By the way, I need my retaining wall fixed and someone to watch my kids. Any ideas?

      • alterego58 says:

abcd, graft and corruption is part of the Mexican (and other Latino) culture(s), not all of them. I have personal business experience with Mexico dating from the early 80’s.

    • JT says:

Bigoted. Plain and simple. There should be no forum for this.

    • regularguy7 says:

I only hope Latinos never adopt the culture and values of Ivy League business executives. Those guys really know how to steal.

    • 45yrsinoc says:

There are no corrupt “cultures”, only corrupt people. That’s what makes stereotypes such as sign of ignorance; intelligent people judge individuals on their respective merits, not by their race, religion or other irrelevant factors.

  • Judy says:

Lotsa hate in the room today.

    • Benson says:

Lotsa crime, corruption and taxpayer funds being diverted to people who are not legally residing in our country. Public school dollars are being wasted because the students in Santa Ana either drop out, flunk out or skate by with mediocre marks and move on to a career of landscaping.

  • nufsaid says:

Was this over Loretta Sanchez being elected by illegal votes being counted when she first ran against Bob Dornan…oh, never mind, that was OK

btw OCR you have words run together without spaces, typos like 2996-2007 which we can pretty much figure is 2006 but really, proof your piece before posting!!! Are you posting from your blackberry?

  • Matt says:

Let’s let the ethics panel do their job before heaping a bunch of unrelated venom on the issue at hand. Either they did something wrong or they didnt, and if so - they should be held accountable for their actions. Last time I checked it is not a crime to be hispanic. Peace, Matt

    • 45yrsinoc says:

Not to mention that they’re the ones that brought this to the committee in the first place. This is about a minor technicality rather than a real issue of corruption. But why let facts stand in the way of a good racist rant?

The racists comments in here are primarliy from those that neither read the article nor even vote in elections. They see the name “Sanchez” and fire away without getting past the heading.

      • Bryan says:

I agree, any feeble excuse to blindly rant against a Latino is good enough for many on this board.

Orange County Register: Are you moderating this board at all? You know what, nevermind. I think it’s better to see what’s really out there when people get all brave behind the anominity of a keyboard.

Scary, and makes me ashamed to be white.

  • Judith says:

When will there be an expose on Lori Galloway and her Eli Home???

  • awolfbeme says:

both sisters should resign they are a disgrace.always has been.neither one of them will ever tell truth about anything.specially on the bailout loretta said she did not vote for it when she did on the second round.wonder what she got for her vote.

  • Charles says:

Santa Ana has a representative in Congress that endorses her home town’s sanctuary policy regarding illegal aliens. Why was she sent to DC? To uphold the laws of this country or some other country? Get out and vote……call your rep…..even if you speak English and demand they change things to support the USA. Accepting these deceptions needs to be history.

  • Phil says:

Linda Sanchez also has a terrible voting record. While representing California, District 39, she has missed almost 20 percent of her votes!

Maybe this job isn’t all that important to her… I think her pay should be reduced by 20 percent and then she can resign for violating House rules.

    • 45yrsinoc says:

Actually, I think if you compared her voting record to the rest of the members, she’s probably in the upper percentile.

      • Phil says:

I did some research BEFORE posting…Linda Sanchez’s voting record is terrible. Linda Sanchez has missed 20% of her House votes which puts her amongst the top absentee voters!

  • Bob Holt says:

These two saints guilty of collusion! Actually they just put their minds together to almost equal one human brain.

  • jay vasquez says:

They are a bunch of idiots who will claim they are a target because they are Latina’s. Boo HOOO trick or treat mensas!

  • JusSayin says:

the ACLU will come in and say we are violating their right to be unethical.

  • evennow says:

Hey OCR I think it’s time to shut down these posts. Whether we “like” or “dislike” these two these posts are racist and disgusting.

  • Bush Sucks says:

All politicians are crooked and look after their interest instead of Americas.

  • bw says:

The Sanchez sisters are the racist ones.

  • American-ized says:

Get rid of Sanchez, she is as corrupt as the rest of them on Capitol Hill and in the California legislator… they ALL NEED TO GO!!!!

  • roman says:

    what a shame.
pretty sure they aren’t the only one’s who are corrupt….

  • LJ says:

It is about time to clean up the corruption in the congress.
They suppose to be working on behalf of the people and we trusted them to be that person when we voted for them.
We all should be protesting at the CAPITOL, because we are sick about all the lies and being dishonest. Democrats and Republican alike.

  • PL says:

The racism is rank on this thread. Needs a thorough scouring.

  • southcountydude says:

    This Is GREAT !
Next should be Yvette Cabrera. The Three of them would have lots to talk about in the Slammer together.

  • LJ says:

    leave it as is

  • Kellie says:

The Sanchez sisters (D); Maxine Waters (D); John Murtha (D); James Moran (D); Peter Visclosky (D); Norm Dicks (D); Marcy Kaptur (D) … see a pattern here viewers? These are supposed to be the “good guys”!

    To be fair,
    C.W. Bill Young (R); Todd Tiahrt (R)

  • Sunnsea says:

If you read the article and not your hate this seems like it’s nothing. If they sought ethics counseling nearly 3 years ago to make a staff transfer presumably to fill a vacancy left by the guilty staffer what’s the big deal? The headline is misleading. The case is still open but should have been closed.
I’m not a fan of either of them but this doesn’t seem, on the surface anyway, to be something scadalous.

    • Phil says:

The unauthorized transferring of funds from one California District to another California District is a HUGE violation! It sounds like Linda Sanchez paid for the salaries of 3 of Loretta Sanchez’s staff members with funds from her own district.

  • nick greville says:

Just like the movie “Dumb and Dumber!” However, Maxine Waters is the absolute dumbest member of the US Congress. She can not speak coherently. Hopefully she is on drugs. I hate to think she is that way naturally.

    • Bryan says:

She’s doing better than you, genious.

      • Kellie says:

…only by conniving her way to her current position.

        • Bryan says:

Oh that’s right, a minority couldn’t have possible worked their way into a position of power like Maxine Waters or Obama or Sanchez. It’s all conniving, corruption, affirmative action stuff.

No minority could have possible EARNED their position.

        • Bryan says:

Sorry, I meant “possibly”, before you go all postal on my spelling and grammar, just thought I correct myself.

  • OC_Guy says:

Wrongdoing or not, I am just so tired of reading about politicians who break the law, or are being investigated for same.

Let’s carry it a bit further and marvel at the double standard that exists in our justice system. Have me be on a cell phone while driving, or park in a red zone, and I can guarantee you I will get ticketed. But when the governor’s wife does so, she just issues an apology, and everything is OK. Any bets on how long it will be before she does it again?

Bottom line -most politicians seem to think they are above the law, and unfortunately the law seems to think the same. It just disgusts me.

  • xyxxy says:

Add them together — you still get zero.

They are little more than unthinking rubber stamps for their masters.

  • nextyear says:

    Hey evennow,

Spoken like a true statist lib: “Hey OCR I think it’s time to shut down these posts.” I hear the Obama administration is hiring.

  • bonnie says:

AMAZING, WE CAN JUST HOPE AND PRAY THESE TWO DING BATS ARE ON THERE WAY OUT! HELP IN THAT DISTRICT AND WALK A PRECINCT, CALL PEOPLE, VOLUNTEER. JUST DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT… DO SOMETHING

    • David says:

YEAH! LETS ELECT MORE GOP LOBBYIST SPANKING F’ING BOY CHASING MENS BATHROOM WIDE STANCE TOE LIKING DIAPER WEARING DEFENSE BRIBE TAKING 5 DRAFT DEFERMENT LINCOLN SAVINGS AND LOAN HYPOCRITE QUITTERS WHO ALLOW TERRORIST ATTACKS AND NEVER DO WHAT THEY PROMISE EVEN WHEN THEY HAVE ALL THREEBRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT BECAUSE THEIR MORAL VALUES AND POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY IS AS BANKRUPT AS THE MIDDLE CLASS THEY SCREW OVER!

YEAH! SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLAN TO REPEAT THE HELL OF THE 80’s and THE PREVIOUS 8 YEARS!

      Wonderful!

  • Watchdog says:

Let’s see every two years Loretta smokes any and all challengers and this year things seem not to changs.

She has already raised a ton of money, meanwhile Van Tran can’t raise enough in the eyese of the RNC.

The other candidate, a recently registered Republican is just another Tan Nguyen who will lose like the others.

This is nothing, if it was then you commentors would have made some comments regarding Millers corrupting ways.

    • Phil says:

If this is nothing…Why are the Sanchez sisters being investigated by the House ethics panel???

      • tre says:

        I think Phil zing’d Watchdog!

      • 45yrsinoc says:

Actually the report included the names of those that the committee was in the process of looking to see if there was enough evidence to justify an investigation. There were some named in the report that are not currently and may never be investigated because the allegations are not credible. But I don’t know which group the Sanchez sisters are in.

It pays to read other sources besides the OCR, as they tend to “omit” some rather pertinant information.

  • Laura says:

    ’bout time.

  • bpsqwerty says:

finally the truth comes out. and by the way, this was one of the worst written articles I’ve read on this blog in some time, possibly ever.

  • Al says:

Hey JT, do you know another word outside of Bigoted? Another guy who looks to be offended at the drop of the hat. Did you get your feeling hurt? Why don’t you call your congressional representative on the left and tell them how you got your feeling hurt.. He’ll pat you on the head

  • muley says:

Between the (2) Sanchez sisters put together their brains dont equal the size of a pea. This is true waste in Washington!

  • David says:

THEY ARE JUST LIKE THEIR MALE REPUBLICAN COUNTERPARTS…

    they have sex with men!

  • Dan says:

We need to vote out ALL members of congress, regardless of party affiliation and start over!
JT and David…grow up. You are no different than the people you are labeling racists and bigots.

  • X-DEM says:

Why complain. These sisters will continued to be voted in to office by their gerrymandered constituents who probably aren’t citizens (of the U.S.).

  • Curt says:

So you say she transfered 3 illegal aliens to work for her. Are there not any American citizens to employ?

  • FEDUP says:

Loretta Sanchez = Illegal immigrant advocate

    Fire her ass!

  • RandyBalboa says:

Now I know why tigers eat there young!, these women are typical of most grey area politics in our country. Now if we could only have a “ethics” meter when we have to listen to these political criminals telling us their agenda based fairy tales, “for our people, and not the rest”.
    Kick the bum’s out!

  • Richard Deight says:

Tell me again, which one is “big” sister and which one is “little” sister? They’re so alike, I keep getting them confused. Tell me again which one rode into office on the other’s coattails?

Consider the strange case of Rep. Loretta Sanchez, who this past year had the audacity to announce she may run for governor.

Ethical questions aside, what has she has actually accomplished in her years in office? Are the people of California, and her district, better off than before she was elected? I doubt it.

As I see it, there are three possibilities. One is that voters keep voting for her because they (a) like the Christmas cards, or (b) don’t seem to know any better. The third (c) is that someday, when we take off the politically correct, rose-colored glasses, we will realize that illegal aliens have been voting in our elections all along. Only by then it will be too late.

How else can you explain all the posturing and kowtowing to the Latino vote on issues that should be of no concern to anyone in this country legally? Why she divorced her Anglo husband so she could take back her “Latino” maiden name?

And how else can you explain how a liberal-Democrat like Loretta Sanchez beat conservative-Republican Robert Dornan in his own district by a scant 1000 votes, and has been in office ever since? Who do you think keeps voting for her?

  • mensarino says:

You folks who hate the Sanchez sisters have no vote unless you live in their respective districts.Even then you would not have enough votes to unseat either one in the general election.Your best bet is to try and defeat them in the Democratic primary. You couldn’t do that now could you because you are republicans and you can’t vote in the primary……tsk tsk.

  • Don says:

Obviously many commenting on this article are FOX “News” hounds and need more education in their life. They probably don’t even understand why I put “News” in quotations,.

  • Dena Bunis, Washington Bureau Chief says:

Just a reminder. We are going to take down comments that are obscene, racist or just plain mean. Please stick to commenting on the actions of the members of Congress, not how they look.

  • Hank says:

It’s so sad when many community members think so poorly of these two sisters. Before i would ever support them in an election I would certainly do my home work.

  • angry white dude says:

Damn Liberals…. Lock both of them up.

  • Watchdog says:

    Haters!

First there are these guys and gals that just can’t fathom a Hispanic female like Lorretta as having as much power she possesses.

These racist haters know that they will never nor any of their offsping have any where close to the amount she even has in her little pinky.

Loving it when the next election returns come in a Lorretta has a 20% lead on absentee ballots.

  • Lori says:

What a joke these two are…pictured back to back, perfect.

Loretta had to have a telephonic “Town Hall Meeting” because she’s afraid of her constituents and also so her “assistants” can write out the answers for her…have any of you been in a conversation with this woman? She is truly an embarrassment to the position she holds…and her sister? well…MMMM, what has she done of note? ANYONE? ANYONE? BUELLER?

And yes, I took offense that there was a special Hispanic telephone line set up for all the people who do not speak the language of the Country they live in…and are APPARENTLY voting in! LEGAL or NOT.

Does that make me racist? Oh, I’m sure it will seem that way to her constituents.

  • Lori says:

  • Alan Travis says:

The Register article on congressional corruption featured 15 Democrats and 3 Republicans. Democrats have long referred to Republicans as practicing the “culture of corruption” when in fact they are far, far more guilty of it.

    • 45yrsinoc says:

More like the laws of probability. After the last election, there’s just more Democrats than Republicans, so there’s a higher incidence of corruption. After all, they’re ALL politicians.

  • Dirty Sanchez says:

At least you can say that Linda has stooped to the level of her constituency by having an out of wedlock anchor baby.

  • OldSki says:

I don’t care where their ancestors came from, I’m not sure where mine came from (history of adoptions in the family), who cares? These two are idiots, don’t belong in Congress, and should be thrown out or voted out. What counts is what you are, not where your family came from.

  • The Hammer says:

Folks, this practice has been going on for decades and is legal. In fact, several Congressional offices currently share staffers such as Computer and IT employees. I know you haters are hot to blame Sanchez for everything, but in this case her Congressional office was the victim of embezzlement that includes Sanchez and her staff. Once the report is done you can blame her from something else ridiculous… oh wait, you already have!
