Saying he is very much in love, Supervisor Chris Norby married a Tustin woman this afternoon in a small ceremony at the clerk recorder’s office in Fullerton.
Norby (pictured left in a file photo) and his bride, Martha Phillips, have been dating since last fall. Phillips, who friends say is in her early 30s, and her three children will move into the supervisor’s six-bedroom Fullerton home.The kids are ages 7, 9 and 10.
“She’s the kindest, sweetest, nicest, most grateful woman I’ve known,” Norby said today, while he was driving with his bride to Laguna Beach for a one-night honeymoon. “She’s wonderful. She loves me very much, and I love her very much.”
Norby wouldn’t discuss much more about Phillips’ background when we spoke briefly today.
This is the fourth marriage for the 4th District county supervisor, who just last year came under fire for claiming $340 for a week-long stay at a hotel during the summer of 2007, when his previous marriage was on the rocks. The same week he spent at that hotel in August, he was also found sleeping under a bush at the Old Courthouse in Santa Ana.
Norby’s and Phillips wed today in a 20-minute ceremony surrounded by family and staff members from Norby’s Fourth District office. Phillips was wearing a white gown and Norby a suit. They met at El Matador for a short reception afterward. Norby’s chief of staff Phil Tsunoda is babysitting tonight while Norby honeymoons.
“They make an extremely happy couple,” Tsonudua said.

Carlos, I wholeheartedly agree. These people that spite all of this garbage about same sex marriage being a problem for heterosexual marriages are truly out of sync. Most homosexual marriages last longer than heterosexual marriages and the heterosexual people that continue having affairs, cheat, lie and remarry and state that gays are the problem have not looked into themselves and need to do that and not to scapegoat a whole other society. It is time in the 21st century we give rights to Gays.

No wonder OC is in trouble. The OC is governed by a bunch of incompetent people. Next time we should send all of OC supervisors home and vote people who at least knows Econ 101.
I wish them well but I also hope they got some pre-marital counseling with his record and maybe hers. If they haven’t already, hopefully they will to help avoid whatever happened before and make this one last.
Why is it that conservatives marry so many times while liberals usually get it right the first time? Oh yeah, the educated now trend left while the right becomes the party of uninformed white guys. And educated people divorce less.
Hopefully our new President’s strong marriage and close ties with his children begin to influence conservatives so that divorce rates can go down and we don’t have any more “4 times the charm” politicians pontificating about “family values”.
