Moorlach’s chief of staff resigns

June 30th, 2009, 3:10 pm · 20 Comments · posted by Jennifer Muir

maineroSupervisor John Moorlach’s longtime chief of staff resigned today.

Mario Mainero will remain on Moorlach’s staff through the end of July, the supervisor said.

“We’re all heartbroken over it,” Moorlach said. “He’s been so fun to work with. I’ve never met anyone as intelligent and bright as Mario.”

Mainero is an adjunct law professor at Chapman University, where he teaches bar preparation courses and is helping the university develop its bar prep program. He says he’s leaving because of health issues, and at the urging of his wife, to focus on teaching.

“One of the nice things about a law school atmosphere is that debate and strong differences are still done with cordiality, and where people don’t get to hide behind anonymity to say things that are a little bit unnecessary and don’t contribute much to the discourse and solutions,” Mainero said. “This is really where I belong.”

I had the privilege of taking a class from Mario while I was at Whittier Law School. He was an excellent professor and was selected as Professor of the Year the year I graduated. I know he will continue to flourish in that setting.

  • Sergeant says:

It will be healthier for the professor to share his brilliant legal theories inside a classroom where the only discourse will come from students - most of whom would likely trade a good grade in the class and the ability to move along to the next class versus actually engaging in anything close to a strong intellectual debate with a Constitutional scholar like Mr. Mainero.

  • Digger says:

I think it’s fair to say Mario will do best in a classroom. It’s real life that he tends to struggle with…like most professors.

  • it's about time says:

    Good Riddance! Sanctimonious tool….

  • finally says:

Good to know “Professor Mario” will be going to the classroom, or at least somewhere other than Orange County. His overblown sense of self importance and astonishing ego will not be missed by any of us deemed by him to be inferior because we were not attorneys. A fresh breeze is already starting to blow. Learn something from this Mario, next time you decide to pick on someone as bright and capable as the DA. You really are a smart guy, but you’re not smarter than everyone else. You started to believe your own hype.

  • bye bye says:

    ….those who can’t, teach….’nuff said

  • MIKE-haWK says:

Moorlach’s fall from grace is continuing, mario is bailing out so he does not go from having mud flung on him to being tarred and fethered, exactly where Moorlach is heading if he keeps up hi poor decision making in conjunction with political grandstanding.

  • first-hand observer says:

It looks like the stress got to him! My heart wants to feel sorry for him, but I can’t…especially when I’ve been a recipient of his rude behavior. I knew nothing of the guy when I first started at the County, yet the first time I met him, he was rude & a jerk. He & JM has been this way to everyone I know. Constantly putting down everyone as if he is better than everyone…Mario, I hope this has opened your eyes & you treat others with respect & kindness from now on. Good Luck.

  • Princely1 says:

It will be best for the entire County or Orange for him to share his “theories” to infantile students who can suck up to his obvious need for notoriety. Moorlach has put him up to the task of of slashing Chriss Street at the knees, but he has failed miserably time and again. Put your tail between your legs and relieve us of your incompetence. Health reasons…right.

  • Joe Pudpounder says:

SOMETHING TELLS ME THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL AND MARIO MANERO KNOWS MORE THAN HE WANTS TO SAY BEFORE THE INDICTMENT COMES DOWN. GETTING OUT WHILE THE GETTING IS GOOD AND SINCE HE WILL CLAIM TO BE MOORLACH’S LEGAL COUNCIL, HE CANNOT BE FORCED TO REVEAL ANYTHING OR TESTIFY AGAINST HIM!

  • Just sayin says:

I’d still like to know why Mario Mainero went on the England trip.

  • ssaworker says:

    Dear Mr. Moorlach,

Sorry to see Mainero go, because he was just about the only one willing to challenge that useless DA we’re stuck with. Kudos to him for that.

However, may I remind you, sir, that there is a HIRING FREEZE in place for the county. That means you MAY NOT promote some other crony of yours into the cushy $100,000 per year job and give them free gas, a car allowance, gold plated pension, etc… just because there is a vacancy.

Don’t even THINK about it, Moorlach.

You’re a county supervisor, not the Governor or the President. You can push your own papers, write your own blog responses and get by like everyone else.

  • SEEYA says:

Mario will go down in County history as perhaps the most disliked and disruptive influence ever to be a part of OC government. He was arrogant (for liitle reason) belittled colleages and staff, and appeared to have fundamental personality problems which negatively impacted his judment. Perhaps he will do better in a classroom which will be good for him and certainly good for those in County government that are interested in approaching disageements in a respectful and dignified manner.

  • Right Field says:

As Greenhut wrote last Sunday: All political activists should know about Evans’ Law of Political Perfidy, coined by conservative icon M. Stanton Evans: “When our friends get into power, they aren’t our friends anymore.”

Seems that Mario figured that out. I sure did after supporting Moorlach for his current job.

  • Jimbo says:

Health issues ? It seems to me that full time ‘ teaching ‘ would be more work than being chief of staff for Moorlach. This isn’t passing the ’smell’ test….and why does a supervisor need a ‘chief of staff”….. what do they do ? How much do they make anyway ? In the interest of true financial responsibility I don’t think Moorlach should fill the position. Come on big boy, step up to the plate…do your part AND do your own work…isn’t that what we are paying you for ?

  • Murray says:

In John & Ken vernacular, they’re ALL spokesholes.

  • OldSki says:

    GOOD !

  • Charles Griffin says:

Move the %@?&#$ Cancer-causing JWA to the Atelope Valley served by a 300+ mph magev system!

  • hadenoughalso says:

This is great news. This is Moorlach’s way of getting rid of this guy that has given him poor advise.
