Rep. Ken Calvert’s GOP challenger gears up

June 16th, 2009, 3:43 pm · 1 Comment · posted by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter

As reported in this item on the candidate, Democrat Bill Hedrick has been making the rounds as he prepares his second challenge of Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Corona. Hedrick came within 2.4 percentage points of upsetting Calvert last year, and that is getting the money flowing to him this time around.

But Calvert may have to run the gauntlet if he’s to be reelected next year. As I mentioned in this February item, Corona real estate broker Chris Riggs plans to challenge Calvert in the Republican primary and is hammering on the ethics of land deals Calvert has profited from.

Riggs is now gearing up his campaign, launching Facebook and Twitter accounts last week and debuting his Web site on Sunday. He’s also hired Sacramento-based strategist Jeff Evans.

While the money is starting to flow to Hedrick, it remains a key question when it comes to Riggs. Here’s how he responded to my inquiry on the issue:

“The hope is to receive many small donations from across the country. This race will be a litmus test to see if all the millions of ‘tea party’ attendees across America are really serious about electing officials that run on a limited government, tax lowering platform, as this will be a perfect opportunity to pick off a big tax-and-spend incumbent.”

Don’t know WHY Corona is always behind Calverts name because he is never in Corona. He uses his mothers Corona address but he is never in Corona. He grew up in Corona, got elected and that’s about the last time he spent any real length of time in Corona.

His ethics are questionable. Everything from ladies of the evening to land deals. He maybe works some deals with politicians in Corona but he’s vitually absent from his constinuents.

He needs donations from across the country because the people he is suppose to represent feel dissed.
