Plan to repeal Prop. 8 introduced

March 20th, 2009, 2:18 pm · 27 Comments · posted by BRIAN JOSEPH, Sacramento Correspondent

Secretary of State Debra Bowen announced this afternoon that her office has approved, for signature gathering, an initiative repealing Prop. 8 and making gay marriages legal in California.

This is in addition to an earlier proposal that would replace all marriages — gay and straight — with domestic partnerships.

The sponsor of this new initiative, Charles Lowe of the Davis-based group Yes! on Equality, has to collect 694,354 valid signatures by Aug. 17 in order to qualify the measure for the ballot.

    Where do we sign?

  • jdd says:

You don’t sign anywhere, the will of the people has been established. There is no such thing as gay marriage in California and to keep shoving it down our throats is unconstitutional. We voted, it’s over. We shouldn’t have to spend state money, time and everything else on this stupid request every three months. The vote should stand and that’s that…..”Whether you like it or not!”

  • samson says:

The same process to have prop 8 put on the ballot is happening to have it repealed. If you believe in the system, and believe that your votes count than you must support the process. If the repeal passes, than you must accept the results. If the Pro Prop 8 folks don’t like, just get out the vote like you did last time. If the ballot is to stand on its own merit, than it will not pass.

register as American Independent to end sodomy, abortion, and for everyone to speak the international language of english. Seems to me that CA should be preparing for an EMP bomb attack from N. Korea or Islamic in Mexico. One bomb in space an it all over for CA industry. Will all will be food gathers again.

  • cml says:

samson-Read jdd’s comments-there is no such thing as gay marriage, california same-sex union couples already have equal rights that are afforded to married couples. Marriage has nothing to do with equality, marriage is designed as a natural order for humanity, the choice for a dis-ordered union is yours and does not warrant a re-defining of the meaning of marriage. Your “same-sex” marriage views are dis-ordered in nature, you can’t pro-create, and if children are involved by artificial means, it can’t be done by two of the same sex. The children involved are being deprived of a natural family made up of mother, father and children. You are only trying to rationalize the disorder you are engaged in. You need to accept the life YOU decided to live without retribution to the rest of society who do not agree with your re-definition of marriage. I will continue to pray for all those who have the cross of homosexuality to bear and those who continue to encourage the behavior. The graces you could gain by bearing that very large cross! if you would not act your feelings and offered up all your pain in reparation to God for all the blasphemies, this could actually save humanity from destroying itself. You are loved by God as if you are the only one He has, and you were made in His image and likeness, your goal is to love God in return, so you can draw closer to Him eventually attaining life with him forever.

End sodomy, register American Independent Party. This is really a waste of time but I figure there should be an out before N. Korea or some Islamic fighter EMP’s the west coast. This is like Boston building transvestite restroom instead of investing in security on 911. EMP Bomb is the price of gayness in the US. This country will not be here for long.

  • ryukage says:

I can’t wait ’til gets on the ballot tyhe we can expose the Yes on 8 people for who they really are. I should write one were the next time a deceitful campaign should be taken off the ballot and the people who promote that should face life sentences.

  • ryukage says:

One More Thing Jod, Gay Marriage will happened nation wide, with or without public’s approval “Like it or not” and “like or not” You guys who are against gay marriage will be view in future by another generation the same way we viewed people who opposed civil rights, freeing the slaves, letting women vote.

  • jdd says:

One more thing ryukage, you are a simpleton who wishes to force your agenda on everyone else. Stop trying to make us accept homosexuality. It is not normal behavior no matter how much you try to pretty it up. Why is it that people like you want to have your own opinion but damn anyone else who opposes you. We have as much right to disagree with you as you do with us. We’re not going to change our minds and the Gavin Newsomes of the world only strenghen our resolve. It was his comment that put this vote over the top. There are a lot of people like me out there who are tired of have OUR RIGHTS trampled on by people like you. I have the right to think the way I want and I will do as I see fit, “Whether you like it or not.” By the way, gay marriage in two states does not make it nationwide. I think you are getting way ahead of yourself. But, I guess when you’re too busy passing out rainbow stickers instead of working for a living what can you expect.

Ah, but as you Prop 8 supporters keep saying, this is a democracy, and there’s no double jeopardy or any other limit on ballot initiatives.

My guess is that this will keep going back and forth for quite some time, so both sides should get used to it.

No, they don’t. Federal tax laws don’t recognize civil unions, for example, so those in civil unions cannot file a joint tax return. They also don’t qualify for tax credits available to married couples. There are many other areas where the rights of marriages vs. civil unions differ.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but try to keep the facts straight (no pun intended).

And before the attacks start; I’m neither gay nor a Democrat.

You know, there’s medication that can help people like you.

  • Lois Minor says:

Homosexuality is a normal variation that has and continues to occur in every nation, in every culture, in every religion throughout the world. Already several nations allow same-sex marriage (Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, and Canada). In the US, Massachusetts and Connecticut recognize it and Vermont is now considering it. It’s just a matter of time before it will be recognized throughout this nation.

  • samson says:

So sad CML, your ignorance is showing. You assumed that since I support the democratic system that I am gay. I am a straight male that supports the ballot system and gay marriage. You just can’t have it both ways, if a repeal passes or another measure basically overturns prop 8 by popular vote, it should stand….until of course another measure defeats it. Eventually, gay marriage will likely take a foot hold in CA and any measures against it will fail over and over again.

You state that a family is a mother, father and child. My father left when I was 8 and chose not to pay any child support, my mother and my siblings where all the family I had. Are you also saying we should ban single parents? Do they have no value in your world.

The second half of your message all relate to religion and God. Who are you to pass judgement? As a Christian, you should no very well that only God has the right to judge anyone….that is the primary reason that religion has no place in politics.

Show me one civil rights movement that hasn’t eventually passed. Slavery abolished, women’s right to vote, blacks right to vote, equal rights for all races, etc..it is just a matter of time.

So good luck with your “anti-everything” belief system. The world is changing…try not to get lost in the shuffle….but go ahead keep throwing good money after bad. Your beliefs may win…but they won’t always.

  • ryukage says:

jdd, You should know that another generation of people are gonna back at this as ludicrous argument to deny people who happen someone of the same sex, And Same things goes to you as well the more you push your “Christian Family Values” agenda the more strengthen the gay community their supporters” so vicious cycle of who’s right or wrong will never end until maybe we all agree on having all marriages straight or gay be called a civil union.

  • ryukage says:

samson, You’re right about that . I personally believe that either way gay marriage will happend most these people know that but can’t admit that due their pride and maybe us rubbing in it on their faces. For them to think gays are forcing people to accept them which is either media or their paranoia talking. Some guys I know are someway that you can tell that they’re gay but I think “in you’re face” guys usually that way because having told all their lives growing up that they have to be this way and not be themselves,Most people couldn’t even tell who’s gay or not anyways,People shouldn’t automatically assume everyone is straight, let alone if they’re different doesn’t mean their something wrong with them.

  • jdd says:

ryukage stupid people like you assume much about others. I am not a christian or a member of any organized religion so therefore I cannot push “Christian Family Values” on anyone. I merely have my opinion on homosexuality and as I said before, I refuse to let narrowminded, liberal whiners like you trample on my right to think the way I want. I don’t care about the new generation, they are easily brainwashed by celebrities who want to be popular, the liberal school system that has been trashed by people like you and our government that only takes a stand on what is popular at that moment in time. Peole like you want so desparately for me to accept you. Are you insecure? Why do you care what I think so much? Why do you try so hard to suppress my opinion? It’s not going to change, and the harder you push the more empowered I feel. I’m going to bet that 100% of the gay community voted for Obama and yet, the black community overwhelmingly supported Prop 8. How do you explain that? People like you like to tag others with the “Hate” label just because we disagree with you. Well, I believe it is you and people like you who are the angry mob and hate anyone who disagrees with you. You’re the ones who want to stomp on everyone who gets in your way and force me and my family to accept you “OR ELSE!” And that is the problem right there. If you didn’t interfere with my right to have marriage defined as being between a man and a woman then I wouldn’t care what you do with another man or woman. Heaven forbid that you acknowledge that in your quest to have your rights recognized, you are stomping on anothers.

  • ryukage says:

Jdd, Look in the mirror, you want keep things form changing, Sorry pal changes are happening whether you like it or not, You have right not support gay marriage just don’t put a vote,If you remember form civics that rights of minority are protected form tyranny of the majority regardless if gays make 10% 2% of population. The truth is you just don’t want understand gays getting legally married would not affect in any way. Why do conservative people like yourself want to have straight white christian males on the top and everyone else on the bottom?

  • ryukage says:

Jdd, beside that, It’s both sides steps on each other toes for something it’s called politics.

  • ryukage says:

jdd,What if Prop 8 failed would you be the cry baby or accept the vote and what about that proposition that would required parental notification for abortions, that proposition failed once and those people should’ve accept it instead bringing up again twice.

  • jdd says:

ryukage, again with the christian reference which I am not a part of. Why do liberal people like yourself want the rest of us to accept your way of life so desparately? “Whether you like it or not” the majority of voters passed Prop 8 which means there are more people in this state that think like me than think like you. I don’t need a civics lesson from a conservative hate monger like you. All I need to know is we are the majority and that is what counts in a vote, whether you like it or not. So, “Sorry Pal” you lost, we won, get over it. Stop wasting our tax dollars with your personal quest to be recognized for something as stupid as your right to go down on another man.

  • ryukage says:

You didn’t answer my question jdd. What if prop 8 lost would you accept it? You forget that it barely passed 52%, the truth is it’s doesn’t fmatter because in time whether if next year or so it get repealed by a majority of people. So it does get repeal are you gonna whine about it?

  • ryukage says:

Jdd,need I add that prop 22 passed by 61% prop 8 passed by 52% your numbers are dropping either way gay marriage will legalized again. It has been legal in Canada for allmost 4 years and the sky didn’t fall, I guess your arguement is nothing more then fear of the inevitable change, it happens slowly bit by bit. So just accept that gay will married and go with your miserable life, wouldn’t you want gays to be miserable with marriage as well, wouldn’t you want them to settle down instead being promiscuous?

  • ryukage says:

One Man fight for equal rights is another man’s pushing his agenda, one man’s fight for religious freedom is another man’s imposing his religios beliefs

  • GregandJeff says:

“There is no such thing as gay marriage in California”

The 18,000 couples who are already LEGALLY married in this state and who by most legal analyst accounts will remain so after the Supreme Court Ruling, would beg to differ on that.

And that is the whole point. The cat was already let out of the bag. There IS gay marriage in this state and will continue to be so no matter what does or doesn’t happen with prop 8.

  • ryukage says:

GregandJeff, Exactly. Gays are gonna get married and no matter how times they put something like prop 8 will always be overturned or repealed by another proposition.

  • Mike says:

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well armed lamb contesting the vote: Benjamin Franklin. Keep fighting California… Never leave the flock to the ideology of the wolves!
