Obama people eyeing fairgounds for O.C. visit

March 14th, 2009, 1:14 pm · 111 Comments · posted by Dena Bunis, Washington Bureau Chief

I justĀ got an update on the O.C. Obama watch from Orange County Democratic party Chairman Frank Barbaro. It looks like the president’s first visit to Orange County as president will be Wednesday as we said but in the early evening and at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, not in Santa Ana.

Frank suggested that to the folks in Washington, Santa Ana is Orange County and maybe that’s why Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said from the podium yesterday that Obama’s visit would be to the county seat.

We don’t know yet how many people will get in to see Obama or even if the event is a public one, although being at the fairgrounds would suggest that it might be. Obama could go to the Pacific Amphitheatre which holds more than 8,000 people or one of the smaller venues for the kind of town hall meeting with visit is being billed as.

I’ll keep posting updates as I get them.

In the meantime, my Letter from Washington is about the enthusiasm Orange County Democrats have now for the next elections.

To the people in Washington, Santa Ana is Orange County? Maybe To Loretta Sanchez & Co.

I always think of Santa Ana as the city that doesn’t fit the image.

  • X-DEM says:

Is Obama still campaigning for the presidency? I thought he won. Why is he campaigning? Shouldn’t he be WORKING to fix this economic crisis? We need a Leader, not a popular campaigning president that travels all over the country sweet talking handpicked Democrats for “good press” coverage.

  • bkkroeli says:

Oh, and what “image” is that? Everything painted one of 3 shades of beige? I was born in Orange, lived in Santa Ana and Anaheim much of my life. That’s the REAL O.C.

Most of the “image” areas are occupied by mid-western WASP transplants that fell for the marketing “image”, and we stuck you in cookie cutter villages located in the hot valleys and burning hillsides of south OC…where you happily paid 4x actual value, planted a palm tree, and called it paradise…..SUCKERS!

  • Megan says:

Jam, are you serious? It’s the county seat…
Why does it not “fit the image”? Wait don’t tell me- ILLEGALS!

  • Megan says:

Santa Ana is probably my favorite city in all of Orange County. Call me dumb for loving the history of where I’m from I guess. I cannot stand most, if not all of South Orange County.

  • nonamer says:

John Wayne Airport is located in Santa Ana. Someone probably told the guy they will fly land at Santa Ana, and it is getting interpreted wrong.

  • Jerry says:

Political persuasions aside, I would not trade my quarter acre lot, gracious neighbors, eclectic restaurants and small business for any specious “image” glorified elsewhere in Orange County.

  • Spence says:

I can’t imagine a better place for shenanigans! :-) Which applies to ALL political knuckleheads!

  • jeff says:

I just saw an awsome video on google called “the obama deception”its a must see.

  • Twitter's Reva Hole says:

I wonder if they’ll charge $10 for parking.

  • phred says:

He should appear where he can be seen by as many people as possible. Most of us are not rich donors who get to see Presidents at private dinners. He is the President of all of the people

  • Harry says:

X-DEM why did you never tell the same to GWB?

Our POTUS has done more work in 60 days than GWB in 8 years!
    I mean “honest work”,

  • steve says:

I am a second generation Orange County resident that has lived here my entire life. As with most older cities, you will find good and bad areas. Unlike most areas in south OC, we can leave our garage doors open, we can paint our houses almost any color we like, not just pepto bismol pink or beige. I agree with Megan, I wouldn’t want to live in most areas of South Orange County.

  • Ali says:

    come to irvine instead.
possible locations: we have the great park and northwood high school has one of the best auditoriums in orange county

and our up and coming city is a great representation of the county

  • Warren says:

I think its great that Obama is coming to be in YOUR FACE! Your is referring to the right wing conservative.

Okay a little side note. I hope Obama isn’t coming here to get a pat on the back from Loretta Sanchez . I’m totally against the illegals and their jackpot babies.

  • OCReader says:

I’ll take my guard gated community any day over Santa Ana. In fact, I might suggest that the HOA build guard towers and man them with trained snipers. I love that there is no night time street parking, so we don’t have 8 work trucks in front of one house. I love that no one leaves their garage door open, so we don’t have to look at everyone’s junk piles or converted garages where 4 families are living. I love that all the houses are painted a neutral color and there are no lemon yellow with blue trim. And no chain link fenced yards, no bars on the windows, no cars parked on the lawns, no chickens and goats in the yard, no laundry drying on the fence, no corn growing in the front yard, no loud music all night long, no gunshots heard in the night, no wild parentless unmanageable children running in the streets. We are able to take pleasant walks through the neighborhood in the evenings and neighbors wave to us. When we see a neighbor out shopping we stop and chat for awhile, instead of trying to gun them down, because they live on a different street. It’s a comfort to me each night when I come home through those guarded gates that my family is happy and safe. As I said before, my only concern is that the gates aren’t strong enough and the guards aren’t armed.

  • TheMatthews says:

I just want to say I love Orange County the Beautiful South and the Metropolitan North I don’t think either one of our divided sides could live without another. Lets be happy that the President choose our Beautiful County unlike no other in California to come visit.

  • t boones pikens says:

Hey , I love South OC… not everyone is glammed and slammed, we play music, goto beach, have parties, parades, it’s too much fun.

  • bkkroeli says:

OCReader: your post shows a total lack of knowledge about Santa Ana and the north area and relies totally upon false stereotypes. Were you just making a weak and misguided attempt at humor or were you just trying to show us your a$$? Nevermind, I really don’t care to know.

  • Steve-O says:

Fairgrounds can accomodate his teleprompters. Santa Ana could not.
At least Bush had the personal courage to speak from his heart.

  • thefloyd says:

maybe we could have a speedway race for him.

    Steve-O, Well said!

  • LeeLee says:

I’ve lived in Washington Square, Santa Ana. Bought our first house there, an awesome 1926 Tudor on a huge lot w/ barrel ceilings and tons of charm. I was hopeful about the Artists Village and we went to many a first Sat. art night. Then the shopping carts, trash and graffiti got to my husband and I. Oh, and the homeless people crusing in front of our house and the low riders crusing with their ghetto music. So we moved to Mission Viejo. We don’t have to paint our house pink, we use the lake constantly, we can leave our garage door open and we feel safe walking with our preschool age daughter and our dog. Tons of parks, great neighbors. And 15 minutes from our favorite beach, Laguna. I love the old homes and huge lots in Santa Ana, but I wouldn’t move back there for anything. With the uptick in violence in Santa Ana, thank God we got outta there in the nick of time.

I’m not slamming Santa Ana, it’s history is is something I’ve always admired. But when FU was spray painted one story high a block away from my house, buh bye.

  • LeeLee says:

Oh, and Bush could have really used a teleprompter. Perhaps he could have learned a bit about syntax and word usage along the way. And please keep his “heart” out of it. He and Cheney ran the most corrupt and law-forsaking government that this country has ever seen.

  • ocbear says:

If Obama wants the illegals to stay in the US then he should visit Santa Ana as originally planned!

  • Johny says:

I don’t care where will he be? Santa Ana or Comton doesn’t matter to me I just want to ask him about this:AIG Rushing Out $165M In Bonuses By Sun.
Why Americans should bail out for these guys? Why he have no plan to help the teachers or just talking than do nothing? People want he must better than Bush shit.

  • Nathan says:

LeeLee, I completely and whole-heartedly agree with you. Moreover, the Democratic Party of Orange County headquarters is in Santa Ana, so why wouldn’t Santa Ana be a good place?
The illegal immigrants are doing the jobs that you would never dare to do. They are some of the most hard working people on this planet, willing to do absolutely anything to have a better life and to earn a living. We need to accept their existance and also make it easier for them to access legalization in this country. I believe President Barack Obama will make that happen. He hasn’t even been in office for 100 days yet! We need to all just have some optimism. Basically, it does no help to hope for failure. Whether his plan succeeds or fails, he will be our president for 4 years. Show him some support. We are all in this together! I’m still in highschool, yet I know the issues of this nation are shared responsibilities of us all, not just one person!

  • Angler says:

He wants to visit the Nation’s county which will be taxed the most by his policies, although those that show up will probably not be paying any.

  • simple me says:

Seriously… some people are so small minded.
Living in an enclosed community with armed guards? Who are you? That’s your beautiful American Life? What a joke.
Get out a little. You might notice there is a big wonderful WORLD out there, filled with PEOPLE, of all different TYPES, even those who would put up with a jerk like you just because they find you fun to mock.
Also, I know it’s been said more than once but isn’t it funny that the ignorant bigots are the ones who can’t spell nor punctuate?
    Hilarious.
I didn’t vote for W but he was my president. Isn’t Obama yours? This is America, we live for our democracy and the thanks we give back are idiotic comments by mongrels… Your parents, grandparents and further back were IMMIGRANTS, fool! Did they have a perfectly legal past? Do you even know? Or are you one of those “Italians” who can’t speak italian, “German” but again, no “deutsch”… maybe on Tuesday you’ll be IRISH, like the rest of us!
    Ugh, I’m tired of boneheads!

  • John says:

X-Dem, Obama is just taking a page from Reagan. He’s doing the same thing that Reagan used to do, traveling the country and “talking to the country and the people” and leaving the bickering republicans in congress back in DC. Republicans are getting a taste of their own soup.

  • oc reader says:

  • lostinspace says:

Orange County can lay claim to one dubious distinction - it can always turn out a sizable coterie of absolute wingnuts more than willing to spread their ignorance. OCReader, a regular member of that club, provides an outstanding display of what distinguishes OC - racism, classism, and a complete absence of respect for his fellow man. Frankly, all you wackos have forfeited your right to criticize our current POTUS with any semblance of credibility - you’ve had eight years at the helm and the result has been shipwreck after shipwreck. If you wish to preserve a shred of dignity develop a plan for the next phase of your privileged life. Dump your trash in your community bin, park your car in your color-appropriate garage with the door closed, and lock yourself inside your cell with a healthy supply of Xanex, vodka, or other mood enhancer of choice.

  • Megan says:

    My thoughts exactly, lostinspace.

  • American-ized says:

    FYI, OC, here’s the uh-hem, agenda…

“It is time to tell president Obama to stop treating the undocumented in a subhuman level”, emphasized congressman, Xavier Becerra.

“We want a change in immigration politics and if we achieved a change in the November elections it is now time Obama be with us”, he demanded.

They anticipate to carry out a visit to California next Wednesday in which analysts anticipate that it will not be a reception regarding his electoral triumph, but to answer an avalanche of claims and petitions.

The work agenda of Obama will initiate Wednesday with a meeting in the City Hall of Santa Ana; in the afternoon he will be transferred to Los Angeles, where he will spend the night. The following day, he will attend two events in Los Angeles and then return to the White House.

Obama will attend an event related to the serious mortgage crisis, but it is also foreseen he will be given petitions for immigration reform and the threat of layoffs of thousands of teachers in California.

With the demand of legislator Becerra coincided congresspersons Lucille Roybal and Grace Napolitano and state senator Gil Cedillo, who promised to carry a proclamation to the assembly, to the senate and to the governor of the state so that they ask the federal government to stop immigration raids.

  • Jack says:

He should go back to the West wing and freakin work! Take Sheriff Hutchens with him!!!!!

  • People R Funny says:

Unbeknownst to the idiot bloggers, Santa Ana is the county seat. Most county business is transacted in Santa Ana. I love the ignorance that pervades the OC when it comes to generalizations. This is the same ignorance that Obama cited when asked about being a black candidate. To the idiot bloggers, the real OC must be the Real Housewives of Orange County. Too funny! Any yet, they can complete a sentence.

  • Olivia says:

Never in my life did I realize how many ignorant people reside in Orange County. Every one of our cities has its beautiful places. I would think that you all would be proud of one of the most beautiful counties in California. As for President Obama, he’s been in office for less than 100 days and has accomplished more than Bush in 8 years.
This man has brought hope to so many, not only Blacks but all people of color. Regardless if you voted for him or not, he is Your President and as an American we should be proud of what our country and its people can accomplish. Wake up OC!

  • RobK says:

We don’t want him. Tell him to go to LA, SF or Sacramento where they like the socialism he is selling.

  • non-partisan says:

    RobK and X-Dem~~

I guess you’re one of those partisan lunatics who doesn’t root for America unless there’s a Republican in the WH.

FYI, I disagree with much, much more of what Bush did than what I fear Obama is gonna do. Regardless of his values, Bush was so damaging to this country in so many ways that if I was in the crowd during Inauguration Day, I would’ve been singing hah hah, nah nah, heh heh.

Obama is gonna bring the troops back from Iraq by next year. That’s good. That means no more bloodshed, no more trajedies, no more tears, and no more wartime taxes. The U.S. shouldn’t be a nanny to another country, at taxpayers’ expense, and telling them how they should govern. Remember the Bush policy of letting the Mexican trucks come into America without restrictions??? Well, Obama is gonna discontinue that or he may well have done it already. With the gang wars escalating in Mexico and, in many cases, spilling over into U.S. soil and even into Canadian soil, I think he made the right decision. It is simply too dangerous and risky to continue that Dubya policy.

“Is Obama still campaigning for the presidency? I thought he won. Why is he campaigning? Shouldn’t he be WORKING to fix this economic crisis?”

I think what he’s doing now is going around to sell us on the economy is improving but I don’t believe it. I haven’t seen one idea from him that shows me he understands what it will take to fix this mess. His ideas are about spending a large fortune to fix infrastructure. Fine, that needs to be done too but it does nothing to get jobs going. He needs to make it easier for businesses to get loans to make payroll and buy new equipment and do whatever it is they need to do. Hire people and make it so the economy gets going again. Until that happens consumers aren’t going to start buying anything. There are things I’d like to buy but right now I want to save every dollar I can in case.

  • noway says:

Brian, I agree. BHO says the economy isn’t that bad?? HA! You’ve got to be kidding me, right??! So those 600,000 jobs we lost a few months ago were all fun and games? “Obama people” ??!! What the hell are Obama people???? White House staffers, maybe?

Or if I feel adventurous and want to take the chance of getting caught in the middle of a gunfight or be a witness to a stabbing. Those are the times that Santa Ana beckons my call. And I hope the pres speaks spanish when he comes to Santa Ana too. When he says ’si se puente’ it really gets me hot and bothered. I hope he mentions ‘amnesty’ and talks about how the illegals want to do the jobs that americans won’t do. That gives me tingles up and down my spine. Yep, Santa Ana is quite a town!

Supporting these Illegals is way out of hand and thats one thing that he should change .Its time this Gov. starts to listen to the real people who fought our wars and really built this Country .Obama is lucky he will have a secure car driving from Santa Ana to Coasta Mesa with all the shootings going on there with the gang members .Even thow I dislike the Pres. Obama’s already spending more time in Orange County than George Bush ever did. And it won’t be at expensive fund raisers that only a select few could afford to attend. I hope that threre is enough room for everybody to see him at the fairgrounds.

  • LocalGal says:

LWPS: Please, get a clue. Obama is the biggest fundraiser in the history of politicians, bar none. Are YOU invited to all his dinners–or could it be that only a “select few”–those with big cash donations like George Soros, Steven Speilberg, David Geffen–that are invited. George Bush came to campaign in the OC on several occasions, BTW. Open locations in LIttle Saigon held thousands–no one paid to see him. You sound like an ignorant fool with a keyboard.

  • I don’t blame Obama for not wanting to visit the hood in Santa Ana
an instead hanging out in much safer Costa Mesa.

Ocobserver you are such a racist pig- I hope you don’t claim to be a christian because that really puts me on the edge- nothing worst then a racist pig, except for a racist pig who is a christian. Noway- I’m sure you didn’t post a comment when McCain stated that the fundamentals of the economy are strong! I didn’t think so. Your quote on Obama is out of context - do yourself a favor and save your uneducated conversations for your donkey friends who actually believe you know something.

  • Gary says:

LOL…you all seem to have the image of Santa Ana as “downtown” Santa Ana, and forget that Cowan Heights, Lemon Heights, and other multi-million dollar homesite areas are also part of Santa Ana.

That being said, I wish he would go to downtown Santa Ana and give a speech entitled: “how illegal aliens are ruining America”.

  • Lionel Hutz says:

Why is the article titled “Obama’s People” ? I don’t recall ever hearing “Bush’s People looking for blah blah blah”

I haven’t once heard the term The Obama Administration.

  • Bill R says:

Gary, what do you suggest we do with the illegal aliens? and what should we do with there children who were born on US soil? Illegal aliens do not run my country - can you explain how they run yours?
    thanks, Bill

  • Jam says:

Megan, I know all about Santa Ana. I worked there for many years…almost thirty. The County seat? Like in government buildings? No kidding, another reason why its such a ghetto. Sorry, even in the 70’s it was a crime infested toilet. Of course, there are a few neighborhoods that are historical and renovated. You know the ones, like Floral Gardens …the ones who don’t allow through traffic, and barricade and try to crime proof their coveted corner of Santa Ana. Can you blame them?

By the way, I don’t live in South County. I have been in OC all my life, and unfortunately, when I was born, there were no big hospitals in the County, so I was born in Long Beach, to parents who farmed their land in Huntington Beach.

And it’s well noted that YOU bring up the illegal immigrant issue…shame shame.

  • MayaB says:

Maybe I’m just in a good mood at the moment but I am fond of everything about the OC. I love the quirkiness and uniqueness of the older neighborhoods and I even like the cookie cutter newer neighborhoods. Whenever I have visitors from other states I proudly show them around all different areas. Maybe the Democratic party chose the fairgrounds because it was the larger venue and not because they were ashamed of Santa Ana. Anyway it always great when a president visits your city. Finally, some of you really seem angry about life … May I suggest a nap?

  • Bill R says:

Megan, maybe you and Gary could get together and think of a good solution on what to do with all of these illegal aliens and there kids.
Maybe we can bring back the Wetback act. Just round them up in buses and ship them back to where ever they came from. Well we are at it maybe we could also take back our country from all of those other 3rd and 4th generation immigrants.
Immigrants were only useful for a while- we need our country back- so we could roam free - with out fear of there oranges or flowers. I am waiting for solutions Megan/Gary and the few other donk’s who posted anti immigrant messages. Give some solutions on how your country would be better with out them.

I didn’t want this guy at first but I love him now !! Time to let all the glutonouss OC republican employers know that you can’t live here for $45-60K/annum and they need to offer more quality pay for work performed. That’s why they’ve all run away cause they can’t rape us anymore. A lot of the motgage lenders were right here in OC,Option 1 for one. Unemployment in MA is $610/week max. CA is $450. Cost of living is probably relative, that just shows the dillusionalism practiced by Sacramento/OC repubs.
By the way, the term “WASP” used by previous entry (bkkroeli)is a racial slur but, I take it as a compliment, I am one!!! As long as the OC employers can use legal and Illegal aliens for labor, enjoy Bushes 2 tax cuts, and pay below middle-class wages for middle class jobs, and NOT participate in the “trickle down” theory then we’ll stay in this mess. Shut the border, send the illegals back, secure the border, abandon supporting the Global Economy and start keeping more work at home. Remember OC employers/repubs, gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins!

1200 tanks and 50,000 US Marines stomped good ole Santa Ana eiminating all of its occupants. there were no survivors. every mexican was expelled. now how great would that be if that was the news. i’m in!

  • Lame says:

No Bailout… you are incredibly delusional and naive. Wake UP!

  • SciDudette says:

    >>As for President Obama, he’s been in office for less than 100 days and has accomplished more than Bush in 8 years. This man has brought hope to so many, not only Blacks but all people of color. Regardless if you voted for him or not, he is your President and as an American we should be proud of what our country and its people can accomplish.>>

Amen to that — well said!!

  • Johny says:

All OC Republicans if you’re real Human in the earth you should think and support to impeach Bush+Cheney many years ago.Now if you don’t support for Pres.Obama,so shut your mouths, quiet, let him do the jobs to clean up the messes from your previous leader left for all working people in US.

  • gadgetlady says:

Oh good. Closer to my house. Easier to picket.

  • Ann says:

    It’s in Costa Mesa stupid.

  • Kelly says:

It’s probably just a logistical issue. The fairgrounds have a bigger area for security to do their job. I am going to an event there Thursday and they moved out setup to Tuesday. We got a notice that there would be extensive search done of any vehicles and people that absolutely had to setup Wednesday. Just seems the site is easier to manage plus, it’s not like they moved it to South County. Costa Mesa borders Santa Ana on many sides.

  • Kelly says:

And I also live close by the Fairgrounds, not looking forward to the traffic trying to get off the 55 at Fair Wednesday night.

  • digitaldude says:

Many cities in OC face problems but it’s up to the locals to solve them. Community involvement is the key to success, whether it’s done by life-long residents or newcomers to the area. City governments and the local police can only respond to problems after the fact; it takes a core of committed locals to recognize potential problems and formulate solutions, appealing to local entities for assistance if it’s helpful. But don’t rely on them to solve the problems ’cause it won’t happen. Work together with your neighbors and in the long-term problems will be solved.

    “# non-partisan Says:

Then you must be an illegal alien. Santa Ana is 95-100% Hispanic. If you love Santa Ana, then how come you left Mexico in the first place???”
    ————————————————————————————–
Actually I’m white (hense my name), I was born in Santa Ana. I love cultural diversity, and the history/artistic of Santa Ana. I was never aware the name “Megan” was so Hispanic sounding. The last I checked, it’s derived from England and Ireland.

    Congratulations though! :)

  • Megan says:

    I meant artistic value.

  • Megan says:

also i never spoke out against illegal aliens. personally i don’t care if they are here or not. we all came to this country as immigrants at some point in our history. when i mentioned illegal aliens i was mocking the general OCR readers who can only complain about them, but never provide suggestions on what they think should be done with them instead of deporting “all of them” because that is pretty much financially impossible.

  • Lardog says:

We are in a crisis time in our economy….It is sad to see American against American with such anger in statements between Republicans/Democrats that you would begin to question if you were Americans or fighting the enemy. We are Americans and least give the guy at least a Chance to accomplish his promises and to try and get this economy on its feet again. We need as Americans to try and work on our problems together.. not as enemies… or we will never get anywhere.

  • rbloom says:

First of all, I’m a 45-year OC resident of good European stock (just to establish my bona fides with the nativist goofballs) and I agree with Megan 100% — Santa Ana is the most interesting and fun place in OC by far.
Second, I just finished reading “The Defining Moment” about FDR’s first 100 days, and all the trash talk being directed Obama’s way is exactly what the Reeps and Wall Streeters were saying about Roosevelt in 1933. FDR ignored it and went about the business of saving the country (including Wall Street), and Obama can afford to ignore it also. History will be no more kind to Boehner, McConnell, et al, than it has been to Hoover.

  • Robin says:

    Obama is a FRAUD

  • sammyj says:

    Lame-
I don’t think you got the sarcasm In Larry’s post. Notice the misspellings - he is making fun of ignorant people.

  • OC reader 2 says:

I agree with Bob, I wouldn’t be there either, keeping my wallet as far away as possible!

  • Warren says:

I agree with you Megan that Santa Ana has a rich history dating back before the US took control of the land. The cultural diversity is promising especial in the OC; however, due to the gang bangers and the illegals Santa Ana isn’t as safe as other areas to visit much less to live.

  • Jarvis says:

At least he is out with the people. We couldn’t get that out of Bush.

  • HBresident says:

Why do all Dems think Obama is the Messiah!

Wait and see what he does, and how much taxes we all have to pay.
So far he is bailing out people that can’t afford mortgages.
I can’t even buy a house due to the fact that Dems like
Barney Frank screwed up housing and banks do not want to give loans. Congress and Senate mostly all Dems and Bush had to go thru them to approve WAR in Iraq and all this housing mess.
I am an immigrant too and I say we have too many illegals and this why we are in the mess we are in. Dems gave rights to illegals to buy houses. Look at Riverside and San Bernandino, foreclosures.
Hospitals closures due to whom, illegals. Can’t pay medical bills.
Please most of them can’t even speak english.
I wish Obama would close more borders.
I love this country, USA is still #1,no matter how many issues we have.

  • DG in AZ says:

I am so glad I logged on today. Most of you have good comments and I’m so glad we are still free to express them. For the record, I did not vote for this guy. I don’t trust him and really don’t like his views on abortion so I’m glad so far he hasn’t done anything with that campaign promise. Full term abortions sound very illegal and SICK to me and morally not correct. For the record Black is not a color (look at the next rainbow). People of color beware - I hope you didn’t vote for this president just because of his color. He talked a good talk but so did Hitler and looked what happened. Iraq and other foreign soils - don’t look for our miliary to come home when he says. It will probably take longer. I lived in Santa Ana, Anaheim, Garden Grove and Fountain Valley and loved all of those areas. I love to visit Cali but it has changed so much that I wouldn’t ever move back. I’ll live through the summer heat first.

  • eddie says:

HBresident, that is one of the most ridiculous rants I have ever heard. You are an immigrant but you feel there are too many immigrants? Does that “too many” include yourself? And you wish Obama would close “more” borders? Not too sure our Canadian friends would be too happy about that.
DG, well done, comparing Obama to the person responsible for the termination of 6 million jews, not to mention the millions of other casualties resulting from his actions.
P.S. Santa ana is absolutely struggling with gang violence, crime, overpopulation, and poverty, but these are issues that are faced in any society/population where the middle-class is being blurred and the gap between the rich and the poor is ever-expanding. Rest assured that the suburban OC bubble is an anomaly, and that santa ana is a better representation of what America has become today: a continuing struggle between the have’s and have-nots.

  • SealBeach says:

DG inAZ: we thank you for moving to Arizona. There are enough Rushbots here already. I’m sure that in Arizona the “fundamentals of the economy are strong.” HMMMMMMMMMM. Where did I hear that before?

  • The event’s open to the public and its free. It’s at Building 12 of the Orange County Fair and Events Center. You can find more info here:

It’s an honor to host Obama. I hope he hears from our wise and thoughtful people, regardless of party. We have big problems and to solve them we’ll need to put away our childish fighting and work together We did it after 9/11, let’s do it again. Assume innocence when determining motive and we will be better humans.

  • Gericault says:

President Obama is coming to the O.C. Great.
For all of you telling me how Obama is going to be stealing my money,I have two words. Ignorant tools.
In 2000, Time magazine did a survey, 19% of Americans thought they were in the top 1% of wage earners. Another 20% thought they would be in a few years. That’s 39% of the populus ignorantly supporting Republican values that are directly against your economic interests.Don’t worry, I got your back.I’ve turned off the A.M. radio and started reading.Want a good book? David Shipler “The Working Poor”.
Obama doesn’t have all the answers but we’re starting to turn in the right direction.

  • shangobunni says:

Why isn’t any city in any county in the entire U.S. okay for the president to visit to be visible and accessible to the public he serves? I totally agree with the person who wrote Obama has done more work in 60 days than Dubya did in 8 years. Obama has worked non-stop since he was sworn in and I believe he is an inspirational leader. I hope I get to see him someday, and I don’t care where.

  • alterego55 says:

I was there this morning to find out *exactly* where to go to get tickets. Unfortunately, they hadn’t figured it out yet. FYI, the two gates they mentioned (1 and 10) are the first two gates you run into if you exit off the 55 fwy and make a right at Fair.

  • 2smart4you says:

The most shocking here thing is that so many republican-redneck-hillbilly-greedy-monsters can actually use a computer! Now just try to turn off FoxNews and READ A REAL BOOK! Returning your beer bottles for cash does not make you an expert on the economy…you haters are SAD!

  • OCgirl says:

I can’t believe how ignorant some people are in orange county. I was born and raised in Santa Ana.. Not once have I ever witnessed a shooting or gang fight.. The only time Santa Ana is ever on the news is when they take all of the criminals from your other cities and bring them to our Courthouse.. The people in Santa Ana are hard workers.. Some are illegal.. but they appreciate being here.. they work for the little money they make and dont complain.. Santa Ana is not a run-down city.. it’s just old.. we have so much history and culture in our town.. i recently moved into a “nicer” part of the OC and i can tell you.. none of my neighbors will ever be as friendly as the neighbors i had in SANTA ANA.. THe neighbors in my new city are just rude and think for themselves… not friendly at all.. and all they do is complain..

  • they only gave out 2,000 free tickets for tommorrow

you are not allowed to bring bags, signs, and will be required to empty all possesions for scanning before entering tommorrow

  • Molly says:

Welcome to Orange County President Obama — O.C. Demographics in California are changing just as they are across the U.S.. Obama was voted in overwhelmingly. Most of the incoherent negative comments are from the people who prefer to be told how to think by the hacks on Fox and on the Radio. They should take the time to apply critical reasoning and some “book knowledge” from a wide variety of sources so they can better understand history . There are alternative parties to the Republican/Democrat parties if they are unhappy with the current political climate.

  • momnewportbeach says:

Uh…why is Obama here and not in AIG’s face today? Way to prioritize Obama! I hope the people going to OC to see Obama aren’t skipping out on their job duties today. LOL

  • Deborah Leigh says:

Harry, you say that Obama has done more work in the first 45 days than GWB did in 8 years. You’ve got to be kidding. Obama has raised taxes, sided with our enemies, upset more than a few heads of nations, dishonored our veterans, and the list goes on. He has run up over a Trillion dollars in debt. This is the equivelant of all the spending since the Revolutionary War.

GWB on the other hand, kept taxes low, went to war against the Taliban, freed the Afghani people and Iraqi people, removed an evil dictator who was oppressing his people and endangering the region and America, brought our GDP to 21% until Democrats took Congress and destroyed that, grew the economy to record levels, lowest unemployment levels, ect.

Too bad you have such a short memory and have, obviously drank copious amounts of the Democrat/Leftist kool aid. Please do your homework. If you like higher taxes, you can pay mine.
