Pastor Rick Warren on the $3 bill

January 14th, 2009, 10:31 am · 9 Comments · posted by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter

Opponents of Proposition 8, the gay-marriage ban approved by voters, have issued this, uh, phony money featuring Saddleback Church Pastor Rick Warren. Warren supported Prop. 8 and Barack Obama’s selection of Warren to give the inauguration’s invocation has caused controversy.

This adds validity to the old addage for Barack Obama-”Show me whou your friends are and I’ll show you who you are!!”

  • J says:

    Rick Warren expressed his opinion.
The same thing millions of others did on election day.
To target Prop 8 supporters is a cheap shot. If you don’t like the results of the election you should work through legal channels. Which is being done.

It’s this arrogant attitude, more than their lifestyle, that causes me to dislike gays. An attitude that they are special and need to be treated special or you better look out.
If you want to be accepted by society you should act like a responsible citizen and not harrass those that disagree with you.

Come on People! This is the one of the greatest men I have the pleasure of knowing and looking up too. It’s time people to get real and humble. Everyone has the right to their beliefs. I know I will have a place in Heaven!

  • Bob Holtz says:

Why does the OC Register post every little childish act the Prop 8 people come up with. Wisckol, you lost and this is now a non issue. I suggest you go in the corner hold your breath and stamp your feet, it sometimes works for my 4 year old granddaughter.

  • Dan Chmielewski says:

Targeting Prop 8 supporters is not what’s happening; identifying Prop 8 supporters and not patronizing their businesses is quiter another. As a consumer, I vote everyday on where I spend my money. If a business supported Prop 8; it’s theri right to do so. It’s also my right — my personal freedom if you will, to not patronize them. I have other choices.

Hiding support for a political issue under the premise of discrimination is not open government.

Stand up for what you believe in. And if there’s a price to pay, so be it.

    Hey Martin,

I just cancelled my subscription to your employers pasper! I’ve been a member of Saddleback Church for 20 years and have seen nothing but good works come from Rick and the church!
    NEWSFLASH!!!
What if every member of Saddleback who subscribed to the OCR decided to cancel their subscription based on all the articles written by you. OUCH. Would you still be writing for them?

    @J–

“Treated special”? No–we want the same rights that you have–to marry the person we love and be treated equally under the law.

“Act like responsible citizens”–We do. We pay our taxes and try to raise our kids, just like you do. And some of us go to churches that actually embrace us.

“Not harass those that disagree with you.”–Gay bashing is the ONE hate crime on the rise, and is proven to increase every time there is one of these divisive votes.

When was the last time a hetrosexual man was gang raped by 4 gay guys spouting hetrosexual slurs?

  • Steve says:

If I hadn’t already cancelled my OCR subscription for a different bone-headed stunt they pulled, I would for this.

  • Chris says:

    TO ‘J’

You say, “If you want to be accepted by society you should act like a responsible citizen and not harrass those that disagree with you.”

I can only wonder what you are thinking. This isn’t about being accepted by society. It is about equal rights. Period.

Gays and Lesbians aren’t fighting for ACCEPTANCE. We are fighting for PROTECTION from the likes of YOU. Who the hell cares what some straight person thinks about them? Not ‘the gays’ that’s for sure. In fact, most of us welcome the distinction, as most of you don’t seem to have the common sense god gave a bliiy-goat when it comes to this issue.

I wonder, if YOUR marriage was on the line, if YOU were going to be FORCED to be divorced, if you would just sit at home and say, ‘Oh well, the people have spoken.” I think not.

That people seem to feel that it’s OK to discriminate ‘just this once’ because it is against those darn gays and lesbians only serves to cast the glaring, vulgar light of discrimination out into the World for all to see.

It’s simply disgusting. But then again Gays & Lesbians are used to this kind of vulgar treatment from straights. Surely if God exists he will hold heterosexuals highly accountable for their absolutely abusive behavior towards his gay & lesbina creations.
