So you thought Barack Obama and Joe Biden were elected president and vice president on Nov. 4th?
Not exactly. Today and REAL election was held - in the House chamber. Senators and House members gathered just a few minutes ago and with Vice President Dick Cheney presiding in his capacity of president of the Senate, one by one the electoral college votes for each state in the union were read by two senators and two lawmakers.
At 1:35 p.m. eastern time the results were official. Obama-Biden got 365 votes and John McCain and Sarah Palin got 173 votes. 270 are needed to become president.
So now all that’s left is the swearing in on the 20th.
I’ll make my pitch again. If you’re coming east for the inaugural I’d love to hook up and get your impressions. So email me at dbunis@ocregister.com.
Dena:
No, it’s not “official” or even “legal”. Barack HUSSEIN Obama, Jr. (assuming that Sr. is even his real father) is not a “natural born” citizen and therefore cannot even become President, per the U.S. Constitution. I suggest that everyone start reading the National Enquirer or The Globe tabloids instead of the OC Register.
