Final O.C. results: Paul beats several other presidential candidates

December 8th, 2008, 3:15 pm · 23 Comments · posted by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter

Renegade Republican Ron Paul did not run a write-in campaign for president - in fact, after losing the GOP nomination he ended up endorsing Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin. But that didn’t stop others from qualifying him as a California write-in candidate, or from him receiving 3,118 votes in Orange County.

That was enough not only to beat out Baldwin (373) and two other write-in candidates here. It was also enough for him to beat someone whose name was actually on the ballot, the Green Party’s Cynthia McKinney (2,454). He also nearly beat American Indepenent Party nominee Alan Keyes (3,562), who’s name also appeared on the ballot.

Write in tallies for state candidates are scheduled to be final by Saturday. You can find final results for Orange County here.

  • Cindy says:

Love Ron Paul. He would have made a fabulous prez. Here’s to the 3118 voters that voted for him!

  • Scott Hansen says:

I am puzzeled. Something seems fishy about this Orange County official ballot results. My wife and I both wrote in Hillary Clintons name for Preasident. Where are Hillary Clintons write in votes on this official O. C. results report? Scott Hansen

  • OCMAMA says:

    I was 2,123 ;) Love Dr. Paul

  • Fork N Knives says:

SCOTT BAUGH!!! Take notice Palin is not the answer!!

  • Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter says:

Scott - You had to qualify as an official write-in candidate for your vote to be tallied. It means filling out a form and collecting a few signatures…. That’s why Hillary’s votes weren’t counted….

Sorry about the “aite-in” typo — it’s fixed, should have been “a write-in.” The “w” and “r” theives are about.

  • Ladyblueyes says:

Hooray for the thinkers here in Orange County!! I’m a Constitutionalist and voted for him IN SPITE OF HIS ENDORSEMENT FOR CHUCK BALDWIN.

Go Ron Paul! I hope we see more of him for the next election! I think the Constitution Party is growing!

  • Cool Hand Dave says:

I voted for Ron Paul. Anyone who thought that McCain ran on a “Republican” platform was sadly mistaken. Both are very liberal. The difference, Obama is pro-collectivism.

  • John S says:

I like Ron Paul. He tells it like it is. We neeeeed to abolish the Federal Reserve and get out of the UN.

You can still write to your congressmen to support:
    HR 2755 (Dump the Fed)
and HR 1146 Get us out of the UN warmongering organization

  • What? says:

I also wrote in Ron Paul. It’s too bad that society is full of “sheep”, solely relying on the media for their “information”.

  • JP says:

    @Wayne

Ron Paul did not write the newsletters. Regardless, compared to the corruption of the “front runner” candidates this past election, Ron Paul is a near saint. When 20 year old newsletters that are vaguely “racist” (funny how most of what was written is actually true though) is the only ammo against someone thats a pretty good sign.

  • Dina says:

Racism is a red herring used to distract from the truth. Americans are being ripped off by Mexico’s 2nd largest industry. Illegal immigration.

  • Ethan Kolasinski says:

I voted Ron Paul. He would make a great President in my opinion.

Here is a great speech he made at the JBS 50th Anniversary Celebration:

Wayne, Ron Paul is not a racist, nor is the John Birch Society.

  • HaHa says:

“My wife and I both wrote in Hillary Clintons name for Preasident”

I guess that explains why they chose Billary.

  • Jesse says:

Good news for the Good Doctor. I voted for Chuck Baldwin thanks to Dr. Paul’s endorsement. I hope I have another chance to vote for Paul in the 2012 primaries though (as well as on into November)!

  • Typo Buddy says:

    Ron Paul is THE best.
    Scott Hansen is a moron.
Obama and his cronies are going to give America away on a silver platter.
Get ready, the worst is yet to come…

  • Helen says:

Ron Paul receiving 3,118 votes in OC? Big deal, so what, and who gives a cra_p! Get real dude.

  • Vinny says:

Ron Paul is already my President! Restore our Constitution.

  • JakeD says:

Too bad no one filed write-in paperwork for Hillary DIANE Clinton against her will. I know those votes weren’t “officially” counted, but can the OCR at least get an estimate or range?

  • Neil says:

With pride, I didn’t waste my vote on any of the 2 party traitors that were running for office.

I wrote in Ron Paul with dignity, knowing that I will not be blamed for what is happening.

These traitors in Washington keep voting against the peoples will.

    It is sad to me.

The people stand idle by as their country is sold out from right beneath their feet.

Washington is riddled with corruption, and it is infested with treasonous opportunists. The fed should be abolished, and I want to keep the fruits of my labor!

I want people to defend their oath to the Constitution and the the Bill of Rights of the United States, to preserve this document which is intended to bring stringent checks and balances, and to lock the government in the chains of it’s existence.

It is an imperfect document, but it is a great start.

Free markets must prevail, and will prevail.

Freedom is in our hearts, and it is all in our minds.

    Nurture it.

    PEACE

    To Wayne:
Have you met Dr. Paul? I am only visiting here in your state as I am from Texas and here on business for a few months. I have met and spoken to Congressman Paul on numerous occassions and he is NOT a racist. Talk to the man. He is the most honest and fair minded person I ever met.

    To Helen:
Who cares? Obviously not you, so why comment? Why should anyone care what you think? Ron Paul is an eleven term Congressman fighting for the little guy in a sea of deception called Washington DC. There are 470 odd other Congressmen and women representing all of the USA. So I would say that his words carry a bit more weight than Helen Blank.
