OC lawmakers to denounce Entertainment Tax

November 20th, 2008, 8:40 am · 1 Comment · posted by BRIAN JOSEPH, Sacramento Correspondent

Five Republican Orange County Assembly members are holding a press conference at 11 a.m. today in Garden Grove to denounce a proposal to extend the state sales tax to amusement parks and sporting events.

The so-called “Entertainment Tax” would be used to cover the state’s burgeoning budget deficit, but the lawmakers — Chuck DeVore (Irvine), Mike Duvall (Yorba Linda), Todd Spitzer (Orange), Van Tran (Westminster) and Mimi Walters (Laguna Niguel) — think it would hurt the local economy and threaten jobs in these tough times.

No Bailout for California! For the record the US government is not bailing out the US auto company’s, The US government is providing a bridge loan until the US economy turns around. Like other country’s around the world, Japan and Germany have pushed $Billions into their auto company’s to develop Hybrids. The US government needs to do the same to keep the playing field level for our US owned Big 3. It is not free trade if one government helps their auto company with $billions for R&D and the others do not. The difference is the US Big 3 will pay back the loans. Japan and German company’s will get a free ride because their governments believe it’s the right thing to do for their country’s economy. Keeping good paying jobs and people employed is important to them. Sounds like the guys in Detroit were correct. Many US states are slowing down and state governments are looking for more ways to find cash. This is just the beginning of feeling the pain from having few industry’s left in this country with good paying jobs. We look down our nose at the Big 3 workers and buy vehicles from Japan and Germany without even thinking what impact it has on our economy. Serves us right for turning our backs on good hard working Americans. The Mid-West states are not looking for new ways to get cash for their budgets (at least not yet) because they collect taxes from their plant workers. Our government workers should take large wages cuts and top government officials should be removed from office. We should also look at importing workers from a 3rd world country with lower wages and let them run our state government. Actions like this will reduce our states budget and eliminate any new tax increases. Down with high wages and down with higher taxes. I’m ok with my 401K net worth dropping 50% along with my home value. This is all good so long as gas prices stay below $2 a gallon and Detroit builds me a car for under $2500. Don’t be afraid embrace lower wages, we will all get our turn. Keep buying Honda and Toyota products and it will be your turn sooner then you think.
