The federal judge presiding in the trial of former Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona expressed frustration this afternoon at the defense’s strategy of playing excerpts of secretly-recorded conversations between prosecution witness Don Haidl and Carona.
Jeff Rawitz, Carona’s attorney, is playing excerpts of the Aug. 13, 2007 conversation today to the jury. The conversation, which lasted three hours and thirty minutes, was played to the jury in its entirety last week.
“Mr. Rawitz, I’m concerned, we’re playing large expanses of the tapes …. ” said U.S. District Court Judge Andrew J. Guilford, while the jury was out on a break. “It sounds like we are playing the whole thing through again.”
“I’m trying to keep it moving … ” Rawitz responded.
“OK, well I’m keeping an eye on that, keeping an eye on the jury.” the judge replied.

Nice move Skippy, now your welfare defense team is alienating the jury. How could somoeone who spent so many years as a bailiff not see the trainwreck that will cause you. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t expect you to know anything at all about police work and therefore understand how you did something so f’n stupid, like talk with Haidl when you knew you were under investigation. But didn’t you learn anything at all in all those years in a courhouse. You really are a rocket scientist aren’t you!

WE SHOULD NOT LISTEN TO SMOOTH TALKING, SLICK, JERKS LIKE THIS, THEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN ALL POWER TO RUN THAT OFFICE, THERE NEEDS TO BE A BOARD SET UP TO WATCH THE SO CALLED LAW ENFORCMENT THERE ARE GOOD DECENT COPS OUT THERE THAT HAVE TO RIDE THIS, THEY NEED TO BE HONORED AND NOTBE LUMPED IN WITH THIS MAN .AND PUT HIM IN WITH THE MAIN STREAM AT THE PRISON
