Poll: Democratic voters far more supportive of auto bailout

November 17th, 2008, 12:44 pm · 16 Comments · posted by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter

More than a third of Democrats say government aid to the struggling U.S. carmakers is more warranted than the taxpayers dollars going to banks, and another 8 percent back all of the bailouts proposed so far, according to an OC Political Pulse poll. Just 20 percent of Democrats responding said they oppose all proposed bailouts.

On the other hand, two-thirds of Republicans oppose all proposed bailouts - and the same percentage of independent and third-party voters share that view.

Of course they are…all soialists support bailing out a private company with our tax dollars.

  • Watcher says:

This lifelong dem does not agree. Remember the famous “Pinto Memo?” The tables have been reversed. Let the Big Three crash and burn.

  • jdd says:

What else do you expect from the taxocrats. They want to give all our money away. The want to give to minorities who won’t work, they want to pay for emergency room visits for illegals, all on our dime. I’m tired of my money going to someone else. I don’t care about the auto companies. Those third graders who work there get way too much money per hour to put together and crappy product. No one wants to buy it because they break down and the company won’t back it or fix it. I hope the whole industry crumbles then those uneducated third graders will finally have to work for what they are worth…minimum wage!

i read on Yahoo yeterday, the top 10 best vehicles are ALL Honda and Toyota. The top 10 worst vehicle are ALL American vehicles, with the exception of two Korean(Kia). So what does this tell everyone? The big 3 US automakers KNOW this long, long ago, but did they do anything to try to improve their products? Heck NO!!! Ugly design and never reliable. NO BAILOUT!!!!

  • OCVOICE says:

there is an interesting thing going on with the Dem Congress. You will notice that they will support any and all industry bailouts as long as those industries are strong union. the best thing for these industries and the taxpayers is LET THEM FOLD. Unions are harmful to the economy and union members salaries are inflated. did you know that Toyota’s average autoworker is salary is $48 per hour compared to $75 per hour at GM. Again, let them (and the unions) cave…

  • Grunt41 says:

This is a surprise? Where was this picked up at, the Obvious Desk? A study/poll was needed to figure this out?

  • badwolf says:

I agree that the auto unions are to blame for this. You can not have continuous wage increases when a company is not selling product. Let them die.

  • Jeff says:

“We have the right as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right to appropriate a dollar of the public money.”

  • jenny says:

selling or not selling products, US unions are costing companies billions of dollars due to their outrageous demands on wages and benefits. Also, due to unions, ’some’ people slack b/c they know they are being protected. We Americans have been spoiled by many things and have taken everything for granted. It is this that caused our economy to fail! Perfect example is bailing out homeowers who made bad decisions.

  • Todd says:

Whoever wrote the headline needs to be reminded there’s a difference between “Democrat” and “Democratic.” We’re all democratic voters (small “d”) because we live in a country that has a democratic form of government. The headline should say “Democrat voters far more supportive of auto bailout.”

Martin Wisckol, we’d appreciate a correction (by you yourself or please notify the appropriate person).

jdd, you obviously know not what you are talking about. Latest JD powers initial quality ranks Ford less than 2% behind Honda and ahead of Toyota in initial quality.
Also for your information there are 2.4 million, (thats MILLION) workers in the US that earn their income from the domestic auto industry. Add them to the unemployment ranks and our entire economy goes down the tubes. Better plan on getting a good deal on a shopping cart cuz you are going to need one for all your stuff.

  • Damon says:

    Todd:

It’s the Democratic Party, not the Democrat party. I know you like to use the latter because, well, I don’t know why, but it’s wrong.

And let me add myself to the list of “socialists” who are definitely not excited about an auto bailout.

I voted for Obama, however, I vote to let the ‘big three’ chips fall where they may!

Besides, my cousin works for Toyota in Kentucky (and no he isn’t Japanese). Deleting GM, Ford, and Chrysler may actually allow companies like Toyota, Nissan, and Honda take over these auto plants, and give the workers BETTER jobs (like my cousin), and might even help bring MORE jobs to America!!! (maybe BMW might even consider building cars here?)

Our workers are GREAT at building cars, however, if the higher-up morons at GM, Ford, and Chrysler want my money to design more lame cars, trucks, and SUV’s, they can kiss my … (you know what)!

  • Todd says:

    Damon:

No, you are wrong. The two major political parties in this country are Democrats and Republicans. It is NOT the Democratic party. I suggest you re-educate yourself.

  • crystal says:

I like the way you think. I’m going to tell some of my friends on the left about your website.
