Will you be watching Obama tonight?

October 29th, 2008, 11:03 am · 173 Comments · posted by Dena Bunis, Washington Bureau Chief

Details are beginning to dribble out about what Barack Obama’s half-hour of prime time television time will focus on tonight.

Here’s when and where you can watch it: It’s on MSNBC at 5 p.m. Or you can see it on NBC, CBS, Univision and BET at 8 p.m. The timing on Fox is a little tricky. That network plans to show the ad at 8 p.m. or immediately following the World Series game.

Are you going to watch Obama's ad?
View Results

The ad is expected to combine a montage of biographical video with the stories of four American families, the problems they face and Obama talking about how he would work as president to find solutions for them.  Obama is also going to talk about his health care plan in personal terms - recounting the story of his mother’s death from cancer and how she struggled with the bills in the final months of her life.

Obama will be at a rally in Florida when the ad airs and there is scheduled to be a live cut away to him making some live comments.

  • Curly says:

I am deeply saddened that so many Americans feel that they can vote for a man who supports this.

  • Megan says:

Yes, I will be watching it while building Halloween costumes. As for the people who are so anti-Obama, saying they don’t “know him” have certainly been given plenty of opportunities, including this one. I feel if they wish to completely ignore anything this man has to say is probably better off sticking to the many conspiracies that have been built up about Obama. “You can lead a horse to water…”

  • JakeD says:

Who said “I don’t know him”?

  • Megan says:

Jake I didn’t name names because I can’t pinpoint everyone I’ve read about who says they don’t know him.

  • JakeD says:

Well, speaking for myself, I already know he’s a liar. He is actively trying to hide objectionable portions of his life, with help from the MSM like today’s Los Angeles Times, if that’s what you mean.

  • Eddie Rose says:

The vicious and hateful attacks on Barack Obama by the morally-bankrupt Republican Party only demonstrate how out of touch the GOP (Grand “OIL” Party) is with the American people.

They don’t want to talk about Bush’s failed economic policies, or Bush’s insane and deceitful war in Iraq, so serial liars John McCain and the incompetent Sarah Palin (who can’t even answer a third grader’s question correctly) resort to hateful smears against Barack Obama.

Barack Obama was not my first choice (Al Gore would have been much better), bit the Republican hate-machine, with their “swift-boat”- like attacks and their ignorant bias against anyone who doesn’t fit into their mold, has convinced me that Obama would be a far-better choice than anyone else.

Further, this election will be a landslide anyway, with Obama receiving more than 370 electoral votes, so we might as well go with a winner. Besides, can anyone in their right mind envision Sarah Palin (barf) as President if something should happen to McCain? Maybe a redneck with a second-grade education, or “Joe”, the NON-plumber (who doesn’t even have a plumbing license) could.

    The Honorable Eddie Rose
    Former Laguna Niguel City Councilman
Registered Independent (not affiliated with any Political Party)

  • Megan says:

    Name one “honest” politician.

  • JakeD says:

    Abraham Lincoln.

  • JakeD says:

Look, Megan, back before the media realized it needed to lie about Obama launching his political career at Ayers’ house, the Los Angeles Times also provided an eyewitness account from a liberal who attended the event.

“When I first met Barack Obama, he was giving a standard, innocuous little talk in the living room of those two legends-in-their-own-minds, Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn. They were launching him — introducing him to the Hyde Park community as the best thing since sliced bread.”

The Times has now stripped this item from its Web page, but the great blogger Patterico has preserved it for posterity on his Web page. So, we know EXACTLY what type of politician Barack Hussein Obama is.

  • JakeD says:

Is there VIDEOTAPE of that too?

  • Sandman909 says:

Jake is racist and he is tap dancing around it. I have seen you capitalize his middle name like there is a problem with it.

The man is a us senator he loves the U.S and he wants what’s best for it. He is getting death threats everyday and he is still pushing forward because he loves this country and wants a change from the last 8 years of BS.

I can’t believe you would vote for a man who doesn’t even know how to work a computer…. My 8 year old can work a computer

  • Megan says:

I’ve never really understood why people emphasize his middle name so much. Are they trying to compare him to Saddam? Why does it even matter?

  • Kevin says:

JakeD, why are you so hung up on his name?
I’m hoping you’re smarter than your comments reflect.
I’ve seen your comments for the past two days and not once I have seen you give a valid reason as to why we should vote for McCain. We get it already with his name. The Hussein bit got old after I don’t know…
lets say the third time you put his name in all caps. Sandman 909 I think calling a misinformed individual a racist might be far fetched. JakeD do you think voting no on Prop8 will be the end of marriage. I’m just trying to get a feel for what type of person you are.

  • Janie Arnold says:

Even those who disagree with Obama have to realize that this is a historic event in the United States if he is elected. We need to review and value our world reputation more.

  • JakeD says:

Wow, even when I don’t capitalize his middle name, I’m a “racist” too? I’m a trivia buff (I use John SIDNEY McCain and Sarah LOUISE Palin’s middle names too). As for using a computer, Ronald Reagan didn’t know how to use one. JFK, LBJ, Ike, Truman, FDR — none of them knew how to use one — neither did Lincoln or Washington. I was not aware the Constitution was amended to require computer literacy?

  • JakeD says:

    MARTIN WISCKOL or BRIAN JOSEPH:

Is it acceptable OC Register posting policy to level personal attacks of “racist” here? Or, is it just “personal attacks” against DEMOCRATS that get deleted?

  • JakeD says:

    Mr. Rose:

Please add my name to your non-supporters too.

BTW: Megan, you have passed the third grade, right? You are aware that Vice President is PRESIDENT of the Senate?

  • Megan says:

    What are you talking about?

  • Megan says:

Eddie Rose was the one talking about Sarah Palin’s answer to the 3rd grader asking what the Vice President does.

  • JakeD says:

I know. Which question(s) of mine don’t you understand?

  • Megan says:

I didn’t mention anything about the job of a vice president in here, so I was confused as to why you were assuming I’m ignorant on the fact of what that job is.

    # JakeD Says:
    October 29th, 2008 at 1:54 pm

BTW: Megan, you have passed the third grade, right? You are aware that Vice President is PRESIDENT of the Senate?

  • JakeD says:

I’m not assuming anything (which is why I asked if you had at least passed 3rd grade and know what the job of VP is : )

  • JakeD says:

Also, when I said that we know what type of politician Obama is, I think I need to clarify. We don’t know that he was born in the United States, and if he wasn’t, then he is not eligible to be elected President (I think you and I agree on that last part at least). So, why won’t he release his VAULT original birth certificate and that can be cleared up at least?

  • Megan says:

    Oh I see now.
Yes, I know what the job of the VP is.

  • JakeD says:

Last question (I promise): what Halloween costumes are you building?

  • Sandman909 says:

If you want to support McCain and his polices as the reason you are voting for him then that’s fine. But based on your stupid comments your voting for McCain for all the wrong reasons. Obviously we have different opinions and that is what makes America great, but don’t try and scare the public with dumb rumors and personal attacks. Next time you talk to your buddy McCain ask him why he didn’t vote for MLK’s birthday to be a holiday in AZ. He later changed his mind after the NFL said they wouldn’t host the super bowl in AZ because of that. Then ask him why he didn’t mention the middle class in all 3 debates. I’m middle class so that is important to me.

I hope nobody emails McCain to tell him we have a problem like Katrina or something. LOL And in 2008 a person that doesn’t know how to use a computer is either an idiot, stuck in the past, or they don’t like change. There is nothing is the world my child should be able to do better than the president…..LOL

Jake is probably one of the idiots at the McCain rallies yelling Kill Him, Terrorist , I don’t trust him, he’s an Arab.

  • Dina says:

    Yawn

  • Megan says:

I don’t see why his citizenship should even be in question, or hyped up as much as it is rather. I’ve had EXTENSIVE background checks for jobs I’ve had in elder care before, which are understandable. I’m in someone’s home on a daily basis taking care of them. Their family doesn’t know me, but feel safe knowing that the agencies that hired me checked my background from birth, basically.

I think if there was any suspicion that he really wasn’t born in the United States it would have been taken more seriously by people other than voters who are scared. I refuse to believe he’s just “getting by”. The only reason I believe he hasn’t responded to every claim people make about him, is he shouldn’t have to. People have every right to question things. But I think this has been blown way out of proportion.

I don’t understand what a vault birth certificate is, sorry. Do you mean original? I don’t even have my original birth certificate. It’s been lost at least 3 or 4 times while moving I’m sure. I have a copy of my original though, which is what he has issued I’m sure. In order to get a passport you have to have a valid copy of your original birth certificate as I mentioned in another discussion. I know you said mistakes are made all the time, but the passport application process is long and obnoxious in regards of making sure you have every piece of legal documentation.

  • JakeD says:

    Megan:

Here’s an Obama effigy found hanging at the University of Kentucky.

    http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D944CKD01&show_article=1

  • Megan says:

Jake, I am helping my boyfriend build a robot costume out of cardboard boxes. It’s harder than I thought it would be, haha.

  • Megan says:

For the record Jake, regarding the effigy of Obama. I think the Palin one in Hollywood is dumb. Stuff like that doesn’t amuse me, I also didn’t think the issue of Palin’s clothing should have even been as huge as it was.

  • audiogirl says:

He’s a day late and a dollar short on this 30 minute “Meet your next president” video.

Should have done it months ago when there were still a few undecideds left.

Clearly though, he has more money than common sense, so he can afford the time slot.

  • JakeD says:

    audiogirl:

Maybe, someday, historians will be able to track down how many terrorists he associated with, lies he told, illegal donations and votes he received. I know that liberal “journalists” aren’t interested.

  • Old Yeller says:

As a long time Republican, the comments of Sandman909 make me sad….because they are true. The reality is my party has been invaded by the neo-cons, the holy rollers aka morality police, racist freaks and the big spending, big govt types…..Bush must be allergic to vetos. We Republicans used to hang our hat on the fact that we were the fiscally responsible party…….those days are gone. There is no reason to vote Republican until we prove we can right the ship. I wish we could get rid of the dead weight in our party and get back to personal and fiscal responsibility.

  • newportbitch says:

Megan, I feel sorry that you think getting to “know” Barry Hussein Sotero involves watching a PROPAGANDA piece that he has smeared over major news outlets (which are biased anyway).

  • Old Yeller says:

JakeD………your comments are what is wrong with our party. Please take Hannity and distance yourselves from our party ASAP.

  • Kevin says:

    JakeD you can’t be serious.
Something tells me you get amused with playing devils advocate.
Your condescending innuendos are pretty funny though. Good thing California is not a swing state and your vote will matter about as much as your comments.

  • johnadams says:

Funny you say Lincoln JakeD because not only is he one of the greatest Presidents in US history, but he also had no prior Executive experience. Just like Obama.

A vote for McCain is a vote for a third term for Bush. How come McCain supporters love talking about Ayers, but they never talk about Todd Palin?

  • fighterj says:

Eddie, you might get what you ask for, I for one, will blame you and your ilk when this country gets attacked and will volunteer you to go to clean up the rubble.

  • johnadams says:

OK Jake, instead of attacking Obama like you always do, why don’t you enlighten us on why you think McCain is the better choice. Please do it without attacking Obama. This should be good. Oh, and comments like “keep us safe” “doesn’t have terrorist friends” “Socialism” and all the other Republican talking points are also not acceptable. Take as much time as you need.

  • JakeD says:

johnadams (ANOTHER Vice President who was “in charge” of the Senate):

I never said that executive experience is a pre-requisite for the job, especially since MANY great Presidents never had it — if you really think about it, though, the only two living, Constitutionally-eligible people READY for the job are Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush — no, thank you, been there, done that. I also love talking about Todd Palin. What do you want to talk about?

  • JakeD says:

Well, there you go again. I do believe that McCain WILL do a much more effective job of keeping us safe — he sure won’t have countries “test his mettle” — but, the number one reason I voted for McCain-Palin is for the replacement Justices like Roberts and Alito on the United States Supreme Court.

  • johnadams says:

Todd Palin belonging to an organization who wants to break from the union, just like the people from the Montana Militia. That’s considered anti american. What’s your take on that? You consider Ayers to be an anti american terrorist so what sets Todd, and Sarah apart from that?

  • JakeD says:

Back to “attacking” Barack Hussein Obama, he is NO Lincoln.

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

Actually I don’t agree with what you said Jake
because John McCain wasn’t born in the United States
and I believe he is eleigible to be elected POTUS
    (President of the United States)

    >JakeD Says:
    >October 29th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Also, when I said that we know what type of politician Obama is, I think I need to clarify. We don’t know that he was born in the United States, and if he wasn’t, then he is not eligible to be elected President (I think you and I agree on that last part at least).

  • JakeD says:

Because the AIP has never bombed the Pentagon nor plotted the deaths of American military. Once they cross that line, there will be no difference. Until then, see First Amendment.

  • johnadams says:

So you admit that the only reason you want McCain in office is to appoint Judges who will make abortion illegal and overturn Roe v Wade. So, basically, for personal religious beliefs.

    I figured you’re a kool-aide drinker.

  • johnadams says:

    Obama never killed anyone.

  • JakeD says:

    SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH:

McCain was born in an overseas AMERICAN military base or civilian hospital in Panama, to TWO U.S. citizens stationed there. Of course he is an American citizen and the CURRENT Senate voted 99-0 to confirm that. OTOH if (and Megan like to point out that’s a very big “if”) Obama was born in Kenya to an underaged American citizen and foreign national, he is not a “natural born” citizen (see Constitution, U.S.) Next canard?

  • Just me.. says:

I can not wait until this election is done. I am so SICK Of the lies and hatred that’s being spread. It has cost me friendships and undue stress. I am proud to say that I voted. Will my candidate win, I sure do hope so. But until we know for sure who our next president will be, I wish we could all just shut up about it once and for all.

  • JakeD says:

Indirectly, State Senator Obama is responsible for newborn infants being murdered. Also, the Supreme Court (and lower federal courts) is much more important than just Roe v. Wade. It’s the most lasting legacy any President gets.

  • johnadams says:

I’m glad people like JakeD want to share their opinions with others. I also love that you’re supporting McCain. This way, people can read how moronic you and people like you are.

Can you even name one thing McCain will or can do? Also, about the safe thing. For one, terrorists tested a Republican in his first term on 9/11/2001. Look how that turned out. Now compare that to the Cuban missile crisis. Clearly a Dem handled the situation much better. Also, Obama will not end the war on terror. He will just move it to where it’s supposed to be; out of Iraq and into Afghanistan.

  • JakeD says:

#1 McCain will chase bin Laden to the gates of Hell and kill him. Your turn.

  • johnadams says:

    Newborn infants now?

  • johnadams says:

Obama already said he’d do that. He wants out of Iraq and he will move to Afghanistan.

    your turn.

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

    BTW Jake,
First thing that popped in my head too when I heard the
silly uproar over Pentecostal Palin’s comments to the 3rd grader
was that the VP is the president over the Senate. ( a simple answer like that to a 3rd grader seems ok to me to be honest )
However she did say that the VP _runs_ the Senate: I think we can both agree that the Majority Leader really runs the Seanate
    (oops I meate Senate… Freudian slip :)

  • JakeD says:

See Curly’s very first post on this thread: http://curly15.wordpress.com/2008/10/29/obama-and-infanticide/

  • JakeD says:

    SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH:

No, she said the VP is “in charge” and (as Harry Reid knows) no one “runs” the Senate.

  • johnadams says:

Oh, and your arguement that Obama can’t be President? Yeah, shocker here:

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/citizen.asp

Snopes says false. So does every peper in the US.

  • johnadams says:

Read a blog from a right wing religious nut? Sure, OK.

We already know the reason you’re voting McCain:

you’re racist and you want Roe v Wade overturned.

  • jz16 says:

No, I probably will not watch it. I like Baseball too much. And there are so many Ads he runs what more can he say? . All I know is he can promise whatever he wants; but it will be up to Congress to pass it. I think we have gotten too excited over this whole Election. This time next year, depending how much the Economy has recovered, you all will find something else to complain about.
By the way Obama is running against John McCain not Bush! Remember sho was spending the money and minding the store the last two years. So what will they do in full control the next two?

  • carol says:

    BUYING AN ELECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • JakeD says:

I am not a racist — I would gladly vote for a pro-life African-American like Alan Keyes — and I don’t care what every “peper” says either.

  • XRepublican says:

People like Jake are the reason that I’m not a republican anymore. In order to be a competitive, vital political entity, the GOP needs to come up with a game plan instead of just shouting insults and repeating rumors and lies.

Obama isn’t exactly my idea of a perfect candidate (that would be Ron Paul), but he’s a heck of a lot better than that obsolete, illegal-alien- amnesty granting, “can’t pick a decent VP” John McCain.

  • carol says:

Wow…SANDMAN909 has real “issues”. Talk about hate. Who would ever want to friends with “him”

  • Unbelievable! says:

Obama is NOT the man for the job. Obama has been to dishonest to the American people. Let’s see if Barack Obama will tell the LA Times to release that video. I highly doubt it. No Obama!

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

Oh BTW Jake I agree that MCain is a citizen but a Natural Born citizen? I think he is but the courts never really ruled what a natural born citizen is.
THE REAL CANARD IS THE REPORT THAT OBAMA WASN’T BORN IN HAWAII. Your conspiracy theory reminds me of the arguements I’d get into when I worked at NASA from wackos off the street that we never landed on the moon. Every time I came up with evidence they’d try to make up new BS that flew in the face of demonstratable facts.

  • fighterj says:

johnadams, who is the Kool-aid drinker? You expect us to honor your right to your atheistic views, but you blast people who have religious views, call people wingnuts, racists, etc… Sounds mighty tolerant of you.

  • uncle bill says:

Funny how because of Obama’s background/associates he couldn’t qualify to be an FBI agent but he can be president.

Also question for Obama supporters - how many terrorists friends do you have?

  • Angeleyes2008 says:

In this blog, it is obvious that the racist mentality prevails.

  • FED UP says:

Stop with the racist BS. I’d vote for Larry Elder a black radio host if he was running.

  • carol says:

Jake, I like how some people say that if you don’t vote or like Obummer, that you are a racist. So sick of it!!!!!!!!!!!! How shallow some people are. It’s just so easy for some to use it as a cop out.

  • johnb1234 says:

This was a stupid move on his part. Interuprting a world series game for a speech? Just plain STUPID!!!

  • uncle bill says:

BTW - nice how someone can say racists things about white people (redneck per eddie rose) but everyone would be outraged if n word was used. nice.

  • fighterj says:

Larry Elder would definitely get my vote. We need more Libertarians in government.

  • Angeleyes2008 says:

It seems that being a Republican means slandering and lying about the opposition. Has the same recalled that just in the last couple of days, the little lipsticked darling named Sarah Palin was called a “Wack Job” by McCain advisers and that the Republican Party, in general, feel she is an embarrassment?

Naturally, the “Core Republicans” will rush to her defense immediately! To those who don’t know what a “Core Republican” is, the “core” faction is the group that would vote for a monkey if it were on the ticket of the party. As for the person in question that is the latest of the B girl of Alaska’s attack, he said he was waiting to the “Idiot wind to blow over”! Do you get, those of you in the Amen Corner?

  • johnadams says:

I’m more curious why Palin is hiding her medical documents. Is she afraid we will find out her daughter is the one who gave birth to her special needs child?

  • dennis says:

Without presenting a birth certificate, experimenting with cocaine, and associating with political radicals for many years, I couldn’t get a Top Secret clearance! Go figure! Has nothing to do with race!

  • fighterj says:

as a libertarian, i completely disagree with you angeleyes. You spout off nonsense that you cannot back up. Wait until November 4th is over before you get so interested in the final analysis before the election has even taken place.

  • MikeG says:

Ok…enough of all this needless banter about Obama’s legal status, his middle name issue , he’s weak issue and all the other stuff the Republicans and Fox network likes to stir up.
BOTTOM LINE.. OBAMA WILL WIN NEXT WEEK. ITS OVER…….THE POLLS ARE NOW SHOWING A GROWING NUMBER OF REPUBLICANS AND INDEPENDENTS MOVING OVER TO OABAMA.
AMERICANS WILL NOT STAND FOR ANOTHER REPUBLICAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE. NO MORE BUSH/ROVE/CHENEY!!!!

  • FED UP says:

Remember Obama is half WHITE moron! Also, If you’re not smart enough to see a liar when you hear one then that’s your problem.

  • JakeD says:

    XRepublican:

I’m registered Independent, so, you were saying?

  • fighterj says:

How about the “core democrats?” Google Howard Stern when his employee interviewed blacks in Harlem and asked them how they were going to vote and asked them “Do you think obama made a good pick with Sarah Palin?” They answered absolutely. What a joke, blacks are all going to vote nobama because of his color of his skin.

  • shirlie says:

Sarah Palin is the one who keeps bringing up “her wardrobe”…

  • FED UP says:

Documents! Obama has shown nothing and he’s running for President. Give me a break!

  • realist says:

Oh yes, the man can do no wrong. Hes our savior and can walk on water and is going to wave his hand and magically make everything ok. Pay no attention to his past, only to the future. Hope and Change are on the way by the one who was born to lead the US to the golden road of paradise. I only hope one day I can touch him….actually Im not worthy of that honor so will rephrase as one day I hope to be in the same general vicinity and get to see just a glimpse of his awe inspiring aura.

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

jAKE i CAN AGREE THAT NO ONE RUNS THE SENATE or is in charge of it too.
I hope Sarah runs in 2012 for president so the Republicans get skewered again that year for her being on the ticket.

  • johnadams says:

Fighterj, you don’t have to respect my Atheism and I never asked anyone to do so. How in the hell is that kool-aide drinking? Adults are talking here. Go find some paint to eat.

  • Nathan says:

Let’s all support McCain and Palin. Think of it this way, Kerry was the projected winer in ‘04 before the voting but guess what he lost!!!

  • Marc960 says:

I am not going to waste my time watching Obama tell “his” stories with no moderator or rebuttal.
It is a 30 minute speech with no questions asked.

Obama can and will say whatever he wishes with no time before the election to clear the air.

Nice touch. I wonder what the TV ratings are going to be claimed.

  • johnadams says:

FED UP: Why don’t you post the lies he is telling and the data to back it up. Take your time.

  • behumble says:

Well, from the monies he is spending just on the ads, he probably doesn’t relate to the economy. Just like he said, “Take off from work or school to vote” Is he going to pay my salary????

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

Hmmm here’s an argument which may point towards McCain not being a ‘natural born citizen’ while Obama is since he was born in Hawaii

Dred Scott v. Sandford, 60 U.S. 393 (1857): In regard to the “natural born citizen” clause, the dissent states that it is acquired by place of birth (jus soli), not through blood or lineage (jus sanguinis):

  • JakeD says:

Developing: Obama’s Kenya aunt found in Boston slum.

  • kool-aide drinker says:

OMGz you geyes is stupider Barack HUSSAINE Obama is teh lair and i knows cuz palins goin ta win and mckane is beter he is not muslum terrorist at his howse and sterted his campange in iraq HUESSENE Obama will get eh test form teh terrorist and mckane wont be testered lol Obama lyes.

  • fighterj says:

I dont respect you. Eat your own paint, jacka@@

  • JakeD says:

    P.S. to johnadams:

LIE “Yes. If I am the Democratic nominee, I will aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.”

    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/586/

  • JakeD says:

    realist:

Good one, but was he BORN in the United States?

  • XRepublican says:

    Jake,

It doesn’t matter what your voter registration card says, I care more about what your mouth says, and it’s saying the same thing as the majority of the republican party; lots of rumor and innuendo, yet no solid plans for an alternative strategy.

Think about it; would you buy a car from a dealer who could tell you nothing about the features of the car, and instead, spent his time with you insulting another dealer down the block?

If the GOP ever wants to get back into the game again, they have to listen to what the rank and file American people want for a change, instead of listening to the extremist religious fringe, the oil companies, the banks and the investment houses.

  • Small business owner says:

As a small business owner, I will be one of the “rich” Americans that is taped to give incentives to the “middle class”. Obama and his campaign know little about ecomincs and how to stimulate the economy. I guess that’s what a high dollar Harvard edication teaches. You can’t penalize those of us who employee others and expect us to give away more of our hard earned cash in higher taxes. This strategy is going to fail in the long run.

  • johnadams says:

Jake: How do you know he didn’t aggressively pursue an agreement with McCain, and McCain declined?

I wrote this to the LA Times today: It really surprises me how you people are still defending Obama, it’s like you’re in

Obama. Look at you the media. The media doesn’t do or say squat about Obama relationships
with criminals. But they’ll go after Joe the plumber. What is up with that? If you the
media didn’t like Obama, Obama would be out of the race because Obama is a shady
character. But you the media won’t question any of Obamas shady past. Why? What does
Barack Obama have? It’s like he’s put a spell over you morons. There is a tape that you

will hurt Obama so you idiots won’t release it. This is ridiculous and stupid journalism

Obama is inexperienced, he is immoral, he lacks judgement and has never really had a “job” that taxpayers don’t pay him for. Our business will be affected by his tax plan, and I will have to lay off someone, I will be forced to stop using services that will affect other small businesses. For all of you mental midgets that don’t get the fact that a small business can easily make 250K , but that doesn’t make a person/family/company rich.
Why should you benefit for my hard work? Go make something of yourself. If I want to give to charity, being that I live in the United States of America, I should choose the charity that I want to give to, and it definately is not Pelosi, Todd, Reid and Obama.

Liberals that call me racist for not voting for him, or minimize the fact that he supports no restrictions on abortions, and voted 3 times to not assist suffering babies born after an abortion is morally reprehensible.

He is a shell of a man, and there is too much racism in this country and he won’t win. Plus there are a lot of lazy stupid people that watch all of the main stream media and see “Obama is winning” that they won’t even bother to leave their houses and vote, but I’m sure they will run to their mailboxes waiting for their welfare check.

Funny how when the rich gets a tax break it all ok and it’s the great thing to do. But when a president says the poor and the middle class gets a tax break its welfare and charity…. (Remember you will pay no more than what the late GREAT Ronald Regan had you paying)

And as far as judgment… The Great 74yr old McCain picked a young idiot to be his VP that doesn’t even know what the VP does. That was his first big decision to make and look at what he did. That doesn’t sound like great judgment to me. Sounds like someone willing to do what it takes to get a vote regardless of who he leaves the country to if something happens to him…

Here are a few oddities spoken from Obama and from the people he has been associated with for many, many years. The first statement is directly from Michelle Obama, his wife:

“This is the first time I have ever been proud of my country”!…Michelle Obama

Reverend Wright’s famous “God Dam America speech”… A racist remark ” Whitey”.

William Ayers….the guy is a 60’s terrorist who is unrepentant to this day for bombing the Pentagon and he helped Obama launch his political career in his living room.

ACORN is a vast left wing conspiracy to steal votes for Obama and to get mortgages for people who cannot afford them and Obama donated $800,000 to them. He was a lawyer for them and he was a trainer!

“”I think it is a good idea to raise taxes so we can redistribute the wealth”…Barack Obama Yesterday talking to a Plumber at a rally

Has anyone noticed a pattern of radical left wing behavior here?

    Quotes from his books:

From Dreams of My Father:’I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.’

From Dreams of My Father : ‘I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race.’

From Dreams of My Father:’There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.’

From Dreams of My Father: ‘It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.’

From Dreams of My Father:’I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa , that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.’

And FINALLY the Most Damning one of ALL of them!!!

From Audacity of Hope:’I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.’

What do the people need to hear? The man can do no wrong in their eyes. Something is wrong with this picture. No Obama!

Show me where its ever been proven that McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer? I believe the issue is he can’t work on the computer for a long period of time for his injuries. But obviously McCain doesn’t get any kudos from you because of that.

Define rich? $200K? In Orange County? That buys you a house and the ability to save a little for your kids college fund. How much percent of total taxes do the “poor” pay? Funny how the “poor” want more of a tax break when they don’t even pay their fair share. Speaking of “poor” - people that don’t even pay taxes are going to get a tax break - thats called welfare. Finally, when they refer to not paying more in taxes then Ronald Regan they’re talking income taxes. What they’re not telling you is they are going to increase payroll taxes too. So you absolutely pay more than you would under Regan (and this goes for the “poor” people making less than $200K).

As far as judgement, the Great Obama decides to be friends with terrorists and convicted felons. Thats great. I can tell you I do not have one friend who is a terrorist or have had any business dealings with a convicted felon. Can you say this? I’m sure you could - and yet your presidential candidate can’t - LOL.

Citizens ever think of who thought up these many rumors to confuse the public. Well, one man mainly has been attributed with the honor. It is our job as citizens to read critically what we read and see through simple lies for what they are. Obama presented a self-autheticating birth certificate at the time of filing to run for president to prove he was 35 or older and to prove he was a natural citizen and this birth certificate was under seal from the Registrar of Deeds in Hawaii. Thus, there is your proof of his age and place of birth admissable without any witness in any court in America as a self-authenticating document. Most of us used one like it to get our drivers license, so it is not an unusual act. The rumors and negative campaign lies do not put forward any ideas to help America. • FED UP says:

Would the Last Honest Reporter Please Turn On the Lights?

    By Orson Scott Card

Editor’s note: Orson Scott Card is a Democrat and a newspaper
columnist, and in this opinion piece he takes on both while lamenting
    the current state of journalism.

An open letter to the local daily paper - almost every local
    daily paper in America :

I remember reading All the President’s Men and thinking: That’s
journalism. You do what it takes to get the truth and you lay it before
the public, because the public has a right to know.
This housing crisis didn’t come out of nowhere. It was not a
vague emanation of the evil Bush administration.

It was a direct result of the political decision, back in the
late 1990s, to loosen the rules of lending so that home loans would be
more accessible to poor people. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were
    authorized to approve risky loans.

What is a risky loan? It’s a loan that the recipient is likely
not to be able to repay.

The goal of this rule change was to help the poor - which
especially would help members of minority groups. But how does it help
these people to give them a loan that they can’t repay? They get into a
house, yes, but when they can’t make the payments, they lose the house -
    along with their credit rating.

They end up worse off than before.

This was completely foreseeable and in fact many people did
foresee it. One political party, in Congress and in the executive
branch, tried repeatedly to tighten up the rules. The other party
blocked every such attempt and tried to loosen them.

Furthermore, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were making political
contributions to the very members of Congress who were allowing them to
make irresponsible loans. (Though why quasi-federal agencies were
allowed to do so baffles me. It’s as if the Pentagon were allowed to
contribute to the political campaigns of Congressmen who support
    increasing their budget.)
Isn’t there a story here? Doesn’t journalism require that you
who produce our daily paper tell the truth about who brought us to a
position where the only way to keep confidence in our economy was a $700
billion bailout? Aren’t you supposed to follow the money and see which
politicians were benefiting personally from the deregulation of mortgage
    lending?

I have no doubt that if these facts had pointed to the
Republican Party or to John McCain as the guilty parties, you would be
treating it as a vast scandal. “Housing-gate,” no doubt. Or
    “Fannie-gate.”

Instead, it was Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney
Frank, both Democrats, who denied that there were any problems, who
refused Bush administration requests to set up a regulatory agency to
watch over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and who were still pushing for
these agencies to go even further in promoting sub-prime mortgage loans
almost up to the minute they failed.

As Thomas Sowell points out in a TownHall.com essay entitled “Do
    Facts Matter?” ( http://snipurl.com/457townhall_com
] ): “Alan Greenspan warned them
four years ago. So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers
to the President. So did Bush’s Secretary of the Treasury.”
These are facts. This financial crisis was completely
preventable. The party that blocked any attempt to prevent it was …
the Democratic Party. The party that tried to prevent it was … the
    Republican Party.

Yet when Nancy Pelosi accused the Bush administration and
Republican deregulation of causing the crisis, you in the press did not
hold her to account for her lie. Instead, you criticized Republicans
who took offense at this lie and refused to vote for the bailout!

What? It’s not the liar, but the victims of the lie who are to
    blame?
Now let’s follow the money … right to the presidential
candidate who is the number-two recipient of campaign contributions from
    Fannie Mae.

And after Freddie Raines, the CEO of Fannie Mae who made $90
million while running it into the ground, was fired for his
incompetence, one presidential candidate’s campaign actually consulted
    him for advice on housing.

If that presidential candidate had been John McCain, you would
have called it a major scandal and we would be getting stories in your
paper every day about how incompetent and corrupt he was.

But instead, that candidate was Barack Obama, and so you have
buried this story, and when the McCain campaign dared to call Raines an
“adviser” to the Obama campaign - because that campaign had sought his
advice - you actually let Obama’s people get away with accusing McCain
of lying, merely because Raines wasn’t listed as an official adviser to
    the Obama campaign.
You would never tolerate such weasely nit-picking from a
    Republican.

If you who produce our local daily paper actually had any
principles, you would be pounding this story, because the prosperity of
all Americans was put at risk by the foolish, short-sighted, politically
selfish, and possibly corrupt actions of leading Democrats, including
    Obama.

If you who produce our local daily paper had any personal honor,
you would find it unbearable to let the American people believe that
somehow Republicans were to blame for this crisis.

There are precedents. Even though President Bush and his
administration never said that Iraq sponsored or was linked to 9/11, you
could not stand the fact that Americans had that misapprehension - so
you pounded us with the fact that there was no such link. (Along the
way, you created the false impression that Bush had lied to them and
said that there was a connection.)

If you had any principles, then surely right now, when the
American people are set to blame President Bush and John McCain for a
crisis they tried to prevent, and are actually shifting to approve of
Barack Obama because of a crisis he helped cause, you would be laboring
at least as hard to correct that false impression.

Your job, as journalists, is to tell the truth. That’s what you
claim you do, when you accept people’s money to buy or subscribe to your
    paper.

But right now, you are consenting to or actively promoting a big
fat lie - that the housing crisis should somehow be blamed on Bush,
McCain, and the Republicans. You have trained the American people to
blame everything bad - even bad weather - on Bush, and they are
responding as you have taught them to.

If you had any personal honor, each reporter and editor would be
insisting on telling the truth - even if it hurts the election chances
    of your favorite candidate.

Because that’s what honorable people do. Honest people tell the
truth even when they don’t like the probable consequences. That’s what
honesty means . That’s how trust is earned.

Barack Obama is just another politician, and not a very wise
one. He has revealed his ignorance and naivete time after time - and
you have swept it under the rug, treated it as nothing.

Meanwhile, you have participated in the borking of Sarah Palin,
reporting savage attacks on her for the pregnancy of her unmarried
daughter - while you ignored the story of John Edwards’s own adultery
    for many months.

So I ask you now: Do you have any standards at all? Do you even
    know what honesty means?

Is getting people to vote for Barack Obama so important that you
will throw away everything that journalism is supposed to stand for?

You might want to remember the way the National Organization of
Women threw away their integrity by supporting Bill Clinton despite his
well-known pattern of sexual exploitation of powerless women. Who
listens to NOW anymore? We know they stand for nothing; they have no
    principles.
That’s where you are right now.

It’s not too late. You know that if the situation were
reversed, and the truth would damage McCain and help Obama, you would be
moving heaven and earth to get the true story out there.

If you want to redeem your honor, you will swallow hard and make
a list of all the stories you would print if it were McCain who had been
getting money from Fannie Mae, McCain whose campaign had consulted with
its discredited former CEO, McCain who had voted against tightening its
    lending practices.
Then you will print them, even though every one of those true
stories will point the finger of blame at the reckless Democratic Party,
which put our nation’s prosperity at risk so they could feel good about
helping the poor, and lay a fair share of the blame at Obama’s door.

You will also tell the truth about John McCain: that he tried,
as a Senator, to do what it took to prevent this crisis. You will tell
the truth about President Bush: that his administration tried more than
once to get Congress to regulate lending in a responsible way.

This was a Congress-caused crisis, beginning during the Clinton
administration, with Democrats leading the way into the crisis and
blocking every effort to get out of it in a timely fashion.

If you at our local daily newspaper continue to let Americans
believe - and vote as if - President Bush and the Republicans caused the
crisis, then you are joining in that lie.

If you do not tell the truth about the Democrats - including
Barack Obama - and do so with the same energy you would use if the
miscreants were Republicans - then you are not journalists by any
    standard.
You’re just the public relations machine of the Democratic
Party, and it’s time you were all fired and real journalists brought in,
so that we can actually have a news paper in our city.

Everyone in this household Voted for Obama this Morning…
But we love to watch him wheever we can.
We are working the polls on Tuesday,
so we can’t pretending we don’t know what is
BEST for America until election day.
It’s the Economy… and McCain is just an old fool who will do more of the same… help banks, the rich and screw the middle class.
I’m considered Middle Class here in SoCal and I’ve never made over 40 Gs a year… McCain says 5 million a year is the level between middle class and rich???
I could Live Very well for the REST of MY LIFE on just 5 Million.
I live pretty good on way less then 1 million.
Obama is for the Change we Need.
Since Nixon took office (almost 40 years ago)…
the Republicans have been in Power 28 years
    the Democrats only 12 years…
When you pick the President this time…
Remeber to think which PARTY has had more time
in POWER to make and create the Problems that we
    have and are Facing today.
Nixon, Reagan, Bush and Bush all had MAJOR Wars
    and Armament Programs.
That causes inflation and destruction of society.

  • Justsaying says:

Maybe you should fine another job Chris. My family is considered middle class as well but we work very hard to make more than 40,000. It’s the sweat you put into Chris. Go McCain! BTW Chris don’t cheat at the polls, we’ll all be watching.

Orson Scott Card’s jounalism/rants are about as insipring as his boring Ender sci-fi seris. The last book I had read gave such a simple world political view of an absurd Inian subcontinant war I almost tossed the book & stopped reading it. I had hope though that the ending would make up for the crappy middle of the book. I was saddly disappointed. I’m even more saddly disappointed in his current pro-republican rants which are whine fests about how the ‘liberal media’ is pissing in his beer ( boohoo Orson grow a spine like Ender should have in his second book after he committed Genocide )

  • JakeD says:

People are still voting YES “I will be watching Obama infomercial tonight”?! We must have attracted the attention of MyObama.com bloggers.

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

Orson Scott Card calls himself a democrat but his staunch support of the Bush/Chenny polices make me wonder if he baises this only because he’s pro gun control. I’m anti-gun control and consider myself closer to the democratic party than Orson Scott Card although I’d call myself a liberarian ( I am voting against McCain by probably voting for Bob Barr although I may write in Ron Paul ) Orson might not realize it but he really is a anti gun Republican Mormon

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

Opps I’m a libertarian I’m not an african liberian wasn’t it the first republican president that wanted to ship all the blacks to liberia?

  • JakeD says:

Seriously, people, why are you STILL voting “I will be watching Obama infomercial tonight”?! The poll was basically tied last night, you know, when the ACTUAL infomercial aired. Stop spamming the poll after the fact.

You do realize that picture of Palin is a fake, right? Also, here’s the quote from the U.S. Constitution I was referring to (I never said that the Vice President presides over an impeachment trial of a President, although nothing prevents a Vice President from presiding over his own impeachment trial):

“The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of the President of the United States.”

  • JakeD says:

The first President of the Senate, John Adams, cast twenty-nine tie-breaking votes – a record that none of his successors has matched. His votes protected the president’s sole authority over the removal of appointees, influenced the location of the national capital, and prevented war with Great Britain. On at least one occasion he persuaded senators to vote against legislation that he opposed, and he frequently lectured the Senate on procedural and policy matters. He was also on the losing side of a debate on what title the President should be referred to.

  • JakeD says:

    Last bit of historical trivia.

    Vice President Cheney has cast 8 tie-breaking votes (so far): Mar 13, 2008; Dec 21, 2005; May 23, 2003; May 15, 2003; Apr 11, 2003; May 21, 2002; Apr 5, 2001; and Apr 3, 2001.

    Albert Gore, Jr. (4 votes): May 20, 1999; Aug 3, 1994;
    Aug 6, 1993; and Jun 25, 1993.

    George H. W. Bush (7 votes): Sep 22, 1987; Aug 7, 1986; Jul 23, 1986; May 10, 1985; Jun 14, 1984; Nov 8, 1983; and Jul 13, 1983.

    Walter Mondale (1 vote): Nov 4, 1977.

    Spiro Agnew (2 votes): Aug 6, 1969 and Jul 17, 1973.

WITH BLOGS LIKE THIS CAN THERE BE ANY DOUBT THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE THAT COULD BE POSTER CHILDREN FOR “NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND?”

OBAMA WAS BORN IN HAWAII ;YOU IGNORANT RACIST!

  • JakeD says:

I am not a “racist” — I would have gladly voted for a pro-life African American like Alan Keyes — as for “ignorant” do you think Arnold Schwarzenegger is eligible to be elected President too?

  • JakeD says:

FYI: Although the Constitution does not explicitly define the term “natural-born citizen”, Section 8 of Article I confers on Congress the power “to establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization…” This power has been construed to include defining the characteristics of a “natural born citizen”, as well as the conditions of “naturalization”.

Section 1 of Article II of the Constitution specifically contains the clause:

“ No Person except a natural born Citizen … shall be eligible to the Office of President …”

John McCain was born at the Coco Solo U.S. military base in the Panama Canal Zone (or, some say at a nearby hospital outside the base) to two U.S. parents stationed on the base. Although the Panama Canal Zone was not considered to be part of the United States, federal law states: “Any person born in the Canal Zone on or after February 26, 1904, and whether before or after the effective date of this chapter, whose father or mother or both at the time of the birth of such person was or is a citizen of the United States, is declared to be a natural born citizen of the United States.” The law that conferred this status took effect on August 4, 1937, one year after John McCain was born — albeit with retroactive effect, resulting in McCain being declared a “natural born” U.S. citizen. Even if he was born outside the base, the law in effect at the time conferred “natural born” status by virture of his two parents being U.S. citizens. in addition, the CURRENT Senate (including Barack HUSSEIN Obama) voted 99-0 to confirm that McCain was a “natural born citizen” and eligible to the Office of President of the United States.

Of course but its funny Thats why I said it shoulda been PHOTOSHOPPED next to McCain’s smiling mug :)

  • SEAN IN NEWPORT BEACH says:

Jake you blatantly added the natural born in front of the citizen in the federal code you cited. The federal code does not read that way.
If you tried that before the supreme court they would’ve tossed your case

  • JakeD says:

I am not arguing before the Supreme Court (I answer to a HIGHER Authority ; )

  • sean says:

The only High authority you have Jake must come from a water pipe…
Who’s your high authority the Karel Rove? Bleezebub? Cheech Marin? :)

  • sean says:

You betcha Jake, Sarah’s gun totting bikini photo was faked but do ya think the photo which she wore a shirt in college which said she wasn’t Flat Busted was real? The pagent videos of her go to show she knew how to wear her attire to accentuate her bust.
Too bad a president like her would just cause the entire economy to go bust…

  • JakeD says:

I haven’t see the pageant photos. As for my Higher Authority: Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Look, the Ayers thing means nothing. He was part of the Annenberg Foundation that was founded by a REPUBLICAN and Reagan supporter. Republicans were part of this board and foundation. It’s just a stupid argument that the right can’t let go of and refuses to recognize that Annenberg is a Republican.

And Obama does not support late term abortion, not at all.

All lies, it’s disgusting the length with which the far right will go to to smear a Democratic candidate. Nice job.

  • JakeD says:

To those of you STILL voting “I am watching Obama infomercial tonight” (TWO DAYS AFTER IT AIRED):

The total was 572 yesterday. Please stop voting. It’s rather embarassing for your side.
