Sarah Palin coming to Orange County on Sept. 25

September 3rd, 2008, 8:28 am · 75 Comments · posted by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter

If you’ve been reading Wylie Aitken’s humorous take on the Republican convention, you know he’s been trying in vain to find somebody from Orange County who has meet GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

That task will become a lot easier on Sept. 25 when the Lincoln Club and Paul Folino co-host a fundraiser featuring Palin. If you’re interested in what will likely be a high-dollar event, you can find contact information for the Lincoln Club at its Web site.

As we get more information, we’ll pass it along.

Meanwhile, take our Political Pulse poll about Palin here:

“Have recent revelations affected your confidence in Sarah Palin’s ability to take over as commander-in-chief?”

  • Scott says:

I dont know why people keep getting hung up over Palin’s experience. She has more experience to run this country then Osama Obama. If McCain would drop dead the day after he was elected and Palin became our President then I would be completely fine with that. She’s got more guts to run this nation then that non-American, non-Christian clown. He has accomplished nothing in the three years he’s been a senator, just a lot of talk

  • Linda says:

    McCain/Palin 2008!!

  • Crystal Balls says:

So believing in a higher power makes you a “whack job?”

  • Johnb says:

I don’t want someone with experience. If experience tells us anything, it’s the people with experience that got us into this mess. Put someone in that will learn on the job :)

  • James says:

Scott, we’re ‘hung up over Palin’s experience” because her experience is in essentially governing the size of a small town in AK, clearly not an indicator of experience…no, it’s that there were plenty of other Republican females with stronger background and knowledge than Palin who the public (and media) would not be having a field day over..but there’s probably no point in providing you a rational explanation as you stick to your convoluted “non American non Christian clown” line.

  • Ro says:

I want someone with experience that’s accomplished something. Obama has accomplished absolutely nothing except a lot of talk in the last three years, not one single thing. Palin has stepped up and accomplished a whole lot more in two years as a governor. She’s a fighter and she’s not your typical politician, she’ll go after the corruption in Congress. If you want inexperience than why dont we just put my mailman in the white house. He probably knows more about what’s going on in this country then Obama and he’s probably more ticked off to get something done too.

  • digger says:

Thanks for the video link, John. It solidified my confidence in Sarah Palin on how genuine she is and how she stands by great morals and values. Too many people think that living by a higher standard is a bad thing; that people should do whatever they want to do. Sarah is a leader that I will follow.

  • Brian says:

Still waiting for an intelligent comment from the JObama lovers. Oh yeah…and some substance too.

  • bpsqwerty says:

“essentially governing the size of a small town in AK”

she has as much experience leading an entire state as Obama does voting the wrong way and never leading in the Senate… if you’re not seeing that you’re blind. fortunately most voters aren’t

  • Pete says:

Apparently everyone was expecting Palin to be perfect. She’s got the smarts and the guts to run this country and that’s good enough for me. I suppose all the people that are attacking her now, including Obama have lived a perfect life to this point. I think its time that we start digging up the real dirt on the Obamas and the Bidens and see what we can publish about them. I would love to read about that

  • CaseClosed says:

The only thing that could improve the McCain Palin ticket would be making it the Palin McCain ticket.

  • bpsqwerty says:

Jamie Lynn was 15 or 16 and I never said it was ‘allright’. I said it was a family matter

  • Damon says:

Some Republican on CNN last night actually claimed that Palin had military command experience. This is apparently because she ordered the national guard to assist with wildfires.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry anymore.

  • RuffRuff says:

    It’s official:

The Republican ticket is a joke!!! A joke on the Republicans, that is!
Can’t wait for the first VP debate. Joe the Dog Biden is gonna chew the beauty queen up and spit her out! Ruff Ruff.

  • ray teletopia says:

Federica, you are full of hate and very judgmental, I’m sure you think you are perfect.

If family is not off limits, then defend Michelle Obama’s hatred for her country (from her own words) or her PhD dissertation which is focused on how racist all white professors are at her college (no matter how progressive their views). How about her speech on the American dream being dead? How about Obama saying his mother’s fear of black men makes her “a typical white person” in his OWN words? Does none of that concern you???

Palin is principled and she has held executive office in local and state government. You may think that is insignificant, but Alaska has its own national guard, school system, infrastructure, etcetera. Obama has not held ANY executive office, ever. He has been in US senate for 2 years and missed most of the sessions because he is out campaigning. He held state senat positions before that (yes…lower than governor).

If you want to criticize someone because of the actions of their near adult children, then criticize Al Gore because of his drug addicted adult son or Bill Clinton’s drunk brother.

If you want to help Obama, you should stop posting, you sound like someone who is incapable of carrying on a debate without running to name calling and accusations of racism. In my opinion, that is what more people need to see so they recognize the err of their ways and vote McCain/Palin.

Thankyou in advance for your reply.

  • Pat says:

I like how federica is critisizing someone else’s grammar but she doesn’t know how to spell “alright”. What a hypocrite

  • Publius says:

I love all the social conservatives telling folks to lay off Governor Palin’s family because it’s a personal, private matter.
But those rights to personal private family decisions don’t apply to an adult woman who might want to terminate a pregnancy. Or a committed gay couple to might wish to avail themselves of the security of civil marriage.
    HYPOCRITES!

  • Pat says:

The liberal media is digging all this stuff up on Palin because they’re scared and they have nothing else to attack her with. And if we did some digging in to the lives of the people that are judging and critisizing what’s happened to her and her family you’ll find that they are all a bunch of hypocrites. Palin is a strong woman and I believe she raises her children the best way that she can. But you can’t control everything they do no matter how hard you try. My parents raised me with the best knowledge and support they could and I still got pregneant when I was 20. I have raised my daughter the best way I can but I cant be holding her hand making every decision for her, I can teach her from right and wrong but they have to learn sometimes on their own. Children make mistakes just like adults do and if you think you’re perfect then you need to wake-up and get over yourself. At least Palin is being proactive and supporting her daughter to do the right thing at this point. I am not going to say based on a decision that her daughter made that she is unworthy to be the next VP. She has more guts and experience to be in the white house then Obama. He’s going to have to do more then play the race card and mud swinging to convince me that he belongs there. The more I hear people attacking her because of her daughter makes me want to vote for McCain even more.
Come to think of it, can someone tell me if Obama was conceived out of wedlock?

  • Truth says:

What do I think of Sarah Palin? The same I think of all politicians. If you believe in the election process as it appears to the general public, and the hype of the parties, elected officials and so forth. You have greatly had the wool pulled over your eyes as to the true dealings of the government.

Just ponder this for a moment. How much does it cost to run one nuclear missile silo? Including the entire staff, which lives there 24 hours a day, the cost of the devices themselves and the upkeep costs, and if you want factor in the cost to build one.

Now think about how many silo’s the US has?

How about nuke subs? Imagine the cost of them to build, run, maintain.

Now look at the budget numbers the politicians talk about. Look at how much money public schools get. Just think about it.

You’ll never see the day a reporter asks a politician something like “If you were to be president, would you consider shutting down nuke silos or subs and using the money for education?”

  • Ay yi yi says:

If the tables were turned and this was a Dem, you can bet the hate-mongering Republicans would be gleefully going after this with gusto. Heck, they even eat their own. Remember what Bush did to McCain in the 2000 primary? Spread lies that McCain fathered a black child out of wedlock?

So, folks, time to suck it up. Palin is being attacked because she is the weakest link. McCain made a very poor choice on this one. We shall see if he’ll drop her. My prediction? It will because she’s chosen to “focus on her family.” Which, in my opinion, is the decision she should have made when McCain asked her to join the ticket. As a mother, I’m appalled that she couldn’t see how difficult she will make it for her unwed, pregnant teenager.

  • Al Dubltap says:

I LOVE the fact that Sarah Palin’s nomination has shaken all of the liberal nuts right out of the coffee houses! They know that she represents American values and that American voters are relating to her. So all you left wing wackos need to get your licks in quick because once all America gets to know her well, they will support her fully. Your side will be left with a has-been and a never-was. Good ALWAYS triumphs over evil…you are owned! HA-HA!

  • she has so much experience according to REPUBLICANS. change is now not later mccain choose her because he knows this is his last chance to win. thats whats wrong with this country old peeps need to make way to new voices. The old are only gonna get older and not wiser. she has no values if she can take care of things at home

  • obama inhaled but i can guarantee the values he sets forth on his kids are much better than palin. lets see if his daughters get pregnant before his 2nd term finishes they be about the age of palins daughter. get over his name and his color or else the decision you make will only benefit the wealthy.

“You’ll never see the day a reporter asks a politician something like “If you were to be president, would you consider shutting down nuke silos or subs and using the money for education?”

    Dear Truth,
When our country is attacked, instead of launching our missiles, we’ll just throw school books at them, since the nuclear weapons money went into education. But maybe we shouldn’t even do that because it would take away the school supplies from the children of illegal aliens that are sucking the life out of our schools.

  • sammyj says:

Our children won’t be smart enough to operate the nukes, we’ll have to have field support from India launch them.

  • sammyj says:

C’mon Republicans, is there really nobody better in your party than her? I can’t believe that. Is Rice really that scared of McCain that she wouldn’t join the ticket?

  • Al Dubltap says:

Nuclear subs are the most vital and indispensable element in our national defense arsenal. Anyone who would suggest shutting them down….well, needs more education.

  • federica says:

Dear Ray Teletopia, just because I am making a negative remark about a Republican, that automatically makes me a Democrat voting for Obama? I just find it offensive that the same person who supports abstinence (And we all know how well that works…) has an unwed pregnant 17 year old. McCain made a very poor choice with her.
And, yes, you are right- Al Gore’s son is a pot head, and Bill Clinton’s brother is a drunk. Not everything about Obama is kosher, either.

  • Megan says:

Haha, Republicans are scared. “SHE’LL WIN! JUST WATCH! JUST YOU WAIT! AMERICA WILL LOVE HER ONCE THEY GET TO KNOW THE *REAL* HER!”

You forgot to mention that NOBODY EVEN KNOWS WHO SHE IS besides a hockey mom governor from AK with a knocked up underage daughter being forced into marriage (awesome).

  • Truth says:

    Cranky -

So you honestly believe the threat and need that the United States will have to launch Nuclear ICBM’s is more real then the amount of money it costs that could be used for education (or whatever).

    Wait -

Lets not over look the fact, that the US land based ICBM’s have the capacity to destroy the entire population of the earth multiple times over.

Really? The threat is THAT real?

    Al Dubltap -

The most vital? When was the last time one was used in combat?

When’s the last time the US used a nuclear strike missile from a sub?

Talk about education - you think that the level of conflict will arise to a point that the United States needs to use nuclear level weapons?

The US holds enough nuclear weapons to wipe out the entire planet, multiple times over.

That is not counting NORMAL munitions and weapons.

So really.. you guys think it’s worth it to maintain a battery of weapons that could wipe out everything (multiple times) that have never, and will most likely never get used.. over education, health care and social services.

    And I’m the uneducated one….

  • Al Dubltap says:

Megan, YOU don’t know who she is. Don’t lump everyone else into your circle of the uninformed. Many astute political observers know very well who she is and what she brings to the ticket and our country. Newt Gingrich had been recommending her for VP since April. Many others had her on the short list as well. But fear not Megan, you and your ilk will have many years to get to know her better. ;-)

  • Lee says:

I like how the Democrats are making such a big deal about Palin’s daughter when we all know its the poor Democrats that are the ones that are usually the ones that have the unwed knocked up teenagers at home. If anything they should relate so well with this. They would rather just come out like a bunch of hypocrites since they are not supporting Palin. Look at the southern states, poor white and black democrats popping kids out left and right with different fathers. Who are they to judge? At least Palin is supporting her daughter and making her own up to her decision by marrying the father of the baby. She certainly has more sense of family values then Democrats will ever have.
And federica, you’re a hypocrite and a moron. Her daughter made the choice to get pregnant, not Palin. Her values shouldn’t be judged because her daughter made her own choice. And I suppose you’re little Miss Perfect behind your computer.

  • Megan says:

    Al Dubltap
Funny, a lot of Republicans said the same thing about Obama.

  • Al Dubltap says:

Truth, you just don’t get it. The best defensive weapons are the ones that prevent aggression by their mere existence, and thankfully don’t have to be used. We can’t be like the Euros and just call on the USA to save our asses because WE ARE the USA. Peace through strength. It’s so simple even a liberal can get it.

  • bpsqwerty says:

“But those rights to personal private family decisions don’t apply to an adult woman who might want to terminate a pregnancy.”

feminists are only for the “right” to “choose” when it happens to coincide with their own preferred “choice” - that is, to rip an unborn child from the mother’s womb. any other “choice” is strictly verboten

  • Lee says:

I agree, Megan shut up if you dont know what you’re talking about. Only the uninformed like yourself dont know who she is. Obama is counting on the young and naive to vote for him and I guess you’re one of them. Get off of myspace and watch the news you might learn more

  • bpsqwerty says:

“C’mon Republicans, is there really nobody better in your party than her? ”

sadly, I’d have to say more than the same goes for Biden. really? that’s it… a potential ‘first’ in the office of President matched with THAT? my god, man.

  • Al Dubltap says:

How about giving the unborn babies the right to choose? I wonder how many of them would choose infanticide by having a large needle plunged through their brain?

  • Megan says:

“feminists are only for the “right” to “choose” when it happens to coincide with their own preferred “choice” - that is, to rip an unborn child from the mother’s womb. any other “choice” is strictly verboten”

you’re joking right? i know MANY pro-choice men and women who would never have an abortion, but support other women’s right to choose.

  • Megan says:

Al Dubltap, that is not what an abortion is. But that’s what an abortion WOULD BE if Roe v. Wade is ever overturned (good luck with that one).

  • bpsqwerty says:

“over education, health care and social services.”

if you want to donate the rest of your social security (assuming there would be any) for free healthcare for illegals, that’s up to you… personally I don’t. the fact that the well will be running dry during our lifetime should probably tell you something. not that we need to tax more, when Americans are already being taxed to death - that we need to find new innovative ways to spend less but provide the same level of services for the amount we are already being taxed. and education is just pissing piles of money away as they have been for the last 20-30 years. one needs to look no further than the state of education in this state for evidence of that.

  • Al Dubltap says:

Megan, I’m sure you know many kinder-and-gentler ways to murder babies, but the end result is the same. Infanticide.
PS: Roe v. Wade will be overturned, it’s not a matter of “if” but “when”.

  • Megan says:

    Oooh, them’s fightin’ words!

  • for sure says:

Megan, that is all they know how to do. They always go back to “murder”, “Infanticide”…..how about children being born, and the mother/father having no money to support them, giving them no education, no future….Oh, wait, that doesn’t matter.

  • Megan says:

by the way, an “INFANT” is a baby that is alive after being birthed fyi. abortion and infanticide are 2 different things completely, whether you like it or not.

  • Al Dubltap says:

Infanticide vs Abortion….Obama said the difference was “above his pay grade”. I guess you should help him out Megan since you have it figured out.

Aren’t there any number of birth control options readily available to women?

Is killing an unborn baby a justifiable “fix” for personal irresponsibility?

If a person gets a dog and decides he doesn’t want it and decides to kill it we through him jail. I’m confused……………………..

  • Megan says:

    Uh
Infanticide is when a mother kills an INFANT in the first 12 months of its life. Don’t you know anything about the Infanticide Act?

An abortion is when you terminate a pregnancy BEFORE THE BABY IS BORN.

There are plenty of birth control options, you misogynist, but what if a woman is raped by her uncle? Who’s decision should it be besides her OWN when making the decision to keep it or not? I’m not saying women don’t get abortions “just because they don’t want it”. I’m pro-choice and even I think that’s abusing the right. But I’m still thankful that if I ever get raped I wont have to carry it to term.

Canine euthenasia, abortion, and infanticide are 3 different things. You are so ridiculous, haha.

  • Al Dubltap says:

Megan, Megan, Megan, Megan. Every credible Pro-Life effort includes a caveat for victims of rape and incest….I’m certain you know that full well. This fact is conveniently omitted by the pro-baby killer crowd in an effort to somehow justify their ghastly beliefs. C’mon Megan, is that all you got??

  • LeeLee says:

    BREAKING RNC NEWS:

Wall Street Journal columnist and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan and former John McCain adviser, Time columnist, and MSNBC contributor Mike Murphy were caught on tape disparaging John McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate.

    “It’s over,” Noonan said.

When Chuck Todd asked her if this was the most qualified woman the Republicans could nominate, Noonan responded, “The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullshit about narratives. Every time the Republicans do that, because that’s not where they live and that’s not what they’re good at, they blow it.”

Murphy characterized the choices as “cynical” and “gimmicky.”

  • LeeLee says:

This Republican administration has run this country into the ground over the last 8 years. There is no debate over that. They can’t talk about any relevant current issues (econemy, inflation, gas, mortgage crisis, a pointless, trillion dollar blood sucking war) because they created the current mess. It’s all their doing. What do they have to talk about? Nothing. What do they have to show for the last 8 years? An unprecedented deficit, less jobs, people losing their homes right and left (no pun intended), thousands of American and Iraqi lives lost in Iraq, Bin Laden still on the run, our borders unsecured, disgraceful partisan cronyism and favoritism, and on and on and on.

    ENOUGH.

If I were a Republican, I’d be keeping my mouth SHUT.

  • LeeLee says:

    OOPS

  • LeeLee says:

    i meant economy

  • Megan says:

Haha, agreed. Democrats can talk all they want about promising changes, because the last time WE had a president, he left with the highest approval rating of any president we’ve ever had.

  • LeeLee says:

    Amen, Megan!

  • sammyj says:

… and largest budget surplus ever.

  • sammyj says:

“Aren’t there any number of birth control options readily available to women?”

And men. However Mrs. Palin would also like to make sure that those options are not discussed in schools and that parental consent is required to acquire those options. Sounds like a foster home disaster waiting to happen.

Abortions will never completely go away in this country. It will become a state by state issue. Anti-freedom Republicans will only make it less safe and more inconvenient. Smart doctors will set up clinics across the borders in Mexico and Canada. Bastions of freedom like New York and California will continue to allow safe abortions.

  • sammyj says:

Oh yeah, what’s with you people who think McCain is tough on illegal immigrants? He’s as weak as Bush on this matter.

  • Megan says:

Also, it’s our current president’s fault that younger girls know NOTHING about birth control and think abortion is their only option.

  • sammyj says:

Just saw the video of McCain with baby-daddy at airport. Crusty looks a little awkward. Levi?.. not bad, I’d do that.

  • LeeLee says:

He must not be a Republican, then. Eeeks. Did ya get a load of those convention attendees? Talk about day old white bread.

  • sammyj says:

Gotta say, she didn’t bother me. Would I vote for her? God no. She might make a decent governor of a state with fewer moose and more people. Maybe Saskatchewan or Alberta. Of course she can just kill off the moose.

  • LaMigra says:

We all know what side of the ‘fence’ federica is on.

  • Robert Turner says:

We are Hillary voters our group has about a hundred voters we will switch to McCain if he talks about Health Care. Please Good job on picking Sarah,

  • Shannon says:

McCain is going to do nothing about health care. Look at his website.

  • Colleen says:

I don’t rememberthe gov. of Arkansas being grilled. I only remember him playing the saxophone with shades on …some credentials…..by the way the reason we are in this economic mess is because of yis social policies of ensuring that the poor had access to credit regarless of their credit scores, ability to pay and at times their immigration status. We can thank Clinton and the Democratsd for the mess that we are in.

Why is everyone so afraid of Palin? Doesn’t everyone have a right to their own religious views? Christiams can be really scary….building hospitals and schools. caring for the sick and needy …staying maried and actually raising a family by biological parents…..yeh that’s threatening all right

  • emorgan says:

    Hey O.C.:

Download Obama’s Tax Proposal off his website, and you’ll run as fast as you can. As far as B. Hussein Obama is concerned, there is no one that clearly gets a benefit between the yearly income bracket of $55K and 225K. And no tax breaks for those that are above $225K Isn’t that comforting? I’ll have to figure out what to say if I have to cut salaries and jobs to those who will vote for Obama. If I get hurt, I’ll have no choice.

  • wg7 says:

Sarah Palin knows the truth. How strange to find someone who defends from a foundation. I support her 100%.

  • g askenasy says:

Ms. Palin is cut from the mold of the wilfully ignorant - the evangelicals. They live all over south orange county, smiling and “happy” in their quest for more stuff, all the time believing they are on the path to salvation. “Are you saved?” they ask. People who preseme to know what God thinks, or wants, all the time condemning those in the “world” while supporting the bombing and torturing of innocents in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is what scares me, cuz’ I know all who immerse themselves in this outrageous brand of “religion” will unthinkingly vote for her “knowing that God put her there.” Wake up! You know this is all myth and fantasy. Disgracing and mutilating creation has no godliness in it. Read about Albert Schweitzer and understand just how far afield anyone is who seeks political office to further her narrow and jaundiced views.

  • Markus says:

I heard that they just recently rescheduled this event for October 4/5 and changed the location. Does anyone have any word on that?

And I don’t see what anyone’s name has to do with anything besides people like emorgan being blatantly racist. What if I went and assumed that all people named emorgan were racist assholes? That wouldn’t be very fair, now would it?

Abstience-only sex education does not work. I’m talking to the wrong crowd here though, since any basis in science that is even remotely reliable is automatically labeled “un-american” and tossed out the window.

  • Shawn says:

    Wake UP People!

To answer some questions above: YES! Believing in a higher power does make you a nut if by doing so you set aside all rational and logical thought. We are facing some real problems in this country and the rest of the world. By hoping and praying that God will take care of them is foolish. McCain obviously has no respect for the presidency and he has shown this by picking such an inexperienced nut job as his VP.

Obama will not bring about change.

The problem is that our system has failed us and we have thrown our consititution out the window giving our government too much power We are facing a major governmental and economic meltdown and the proposed bailout plan is only the catalyst. If the plan passes, we will lose the small amount of freedoms and liberties we have left.

The Federal Reserve system has caused this problem and the only way to fix the problem is to eliminate the cause.

    We need real change!

    We need a Revolution!

    We need our Constitution!
