Elephant in the Room-The Obama store and other Republican dilemmas

August 25th, 2008, 8:02 pm · 1 Comment · posted by mschroeder

Newport Beach’s Mike Schroeder, former chairman of the California Republican Party, is a guest blogger at the Democratic convention.

So many decisions.

A series of large signs declare that “The Obama Store” is located in the hotel for the California delegation. This seemed like an example of nascent capitalism that should be encouraged. Upon inspection, I found good merch at reasonable prices - “Obama 08″ enamel buttons for $5, “Obama Kids” tee shirts for $13. Oops, a prominent sign stating “You will be pleased to know that all proceeds will go to support the election of Barak Obama” Not so much…..better pass.

What to wear? A suit and tie to show respect? Informal attire to fit in? Went for the suit. Rookie error. Simply too hot in the receptions and walking between events. Won’t happen again. No suits in sight except at the DNC headquarters hotel (predictably, lots of earpieces running around as well).

Republican and conservative protestors. Interview them? Join them? Still a work in progress……

  1. Steve Parks Says:

Just another pointless (read: “Sarah Palin”) GOP ego-blather (read: “McCain”) so that you can show-off things like “nascent” & “Not so much”. That you are “Still a work in progress”, I completely agree.
