Feinstein sidelined for Democratic convention

August 19th, 2008, 6:02 pm · 2 Comments · posted by Dena Bunis, Washington Bureau Chief

feinsteinmug.jpgCalifornia’s senior senator, Dianne Feinstein, broke her ankle at the end of last week and will have to skip her party’s national convention in Denver.

Here’s what she said in a statement released by her office:

“Last Friday — the day before the Lake Tahoe Summit — I slipped and broke my left ankle while I was on a walk with Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher on the Meeks Bay Trail in the Tahoe forest.”

”My doctor has advised me not to travel in the short-term, and so, regretfully, I am unable to attend what will surely be an historic convention in Denver.”

Feinstein said she’ll miss everyone. Unlike four years ago when she put John Kerry’s name in nomination, she wasn’t slated to have a big role in this year’s convention.

After all, Feinstein was an early and strong supporter of Hillary Clinton. But she has since endorsed Barack Obama and her Washington home was the scene of the first face-to-face meeting between the two after the primary race ended.

Feinstein was to have participated in what has become a tradition at the Democratic conventions - when all the women senators appear on stage together.

I’ll chip in for tickets to Lake Tahoe for Barbara Boxer, Hilary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi….
    What trail is that again?

Maybe she can contemplate her abysmal record with veterans while she’s only entertaining at home. Oh, and I’ll pitch in for those tickets, too!
