Total Buzz ~ The insiders' hotline to Orange County government and politics

Hutchens’ first message to the troops

June 12th, 2008, 5:38 pm · 10 Comments · posted by Peggy Lowe

sandra-hutchens.jpgSheriff-designee (is that the term? Soon-to-be sheriff? Sheriff-pretty-soon?) Sandra Hutchens just posted her first message to the troops. In it, she confirms what I heard earlier today — she will be sworn in on June 24.

She writes that she will be meeting with all the employees, doing an internal and external audit and reaching out to other law enforcement agencies and contract cities.

“I’m sure we will all agree that these are very challenging times for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department,” she wrote. “But these are also very promising times. We have the opportunity to challenge old assumptions and unlearn outdated practices.”

If Jack Anderson had to be called “Acting Sheriff” then Hutchens should have to be known as “Sheriff-designee” or “Sheriff-appointee”.

The Sheriff is a position given by the people in an election. A person acquiring the position in any other way shouldn’t be able to call themselves Sheriff.

    Sorry Moorlach.

  • Sam says:

The Supes can appoint a Sheriff by law. She’s now the Sheriff. Get over it.

  • 18Vetern says:

Sheriff Hutchens will defintely be a imporvement for Morale to the troops compared to Anderson who was a sellout to MOORLACH and cared little for the troops.

  • deputy says:

Anderson was not a sellout to Moorlach. He was just doing what was right for the department and the county as a whole. He will always do the right thing and there will always be malcontents like “18Vetern” who will moan and groan. Anderson supports the troops and loves the department. But of course there are always a few complainers who cannot see the big picture. They get mad if it isn’t all about them. I have two words for them… GROW UP!!!

  • on my own two feet says:

    To deputy:

Or should I call you “boot”, because you obviously don’t have a clue. Anderson only got (not earned) to the rank he did by kissing a**. It looks like you’re trying the same route, too. I’m sad to tell you this, but kissing up to Jack probably won’t get you anywhere anymore…not that it did already…you are still a deputy. Hopefully if you’re ever a Sgt. or Lt. you’ll have a clue.

  • Brickle says:

If Anderson was a sellout to Moorlach, why didn’t Moorlach vote for him in the straw vote?

Anderson was and still is MANAGEMENT. He is ultimately answerable to the owners - in this case, the voters. Not to the workers. Certainly not to lower level management. To the people who frigging pay. If you don’t like the job, go get another one.

Now Hutchins is answerable to the voters.

  • Harry Pairatestes says:

    Deputy:
Actually I think it was Jumpin’ Jack himself that wrote that gem! There isn’t a deputy among the 18 or 19 hundred of them that feels that way. They watched, with great frustration, as that fool did any and everything to sell out the department so that he could position himself to win the prize for the next two and a half years and then campaign in 2010 as the incumbent for the elected position.

Jumpin’ Jack got “punked” as a result of this skewed process and was made to look like Moorlach’s beotch. Hell, he got only one sympathy vote from Bates. Everyone else, even that imbecile Nguyen, was smart enough to kick that self serving puppet to the curb.

So deputy, uh I mean Jack, stop with the smoke and mirrors nonsense, go away and figure out what other political office you can posture for…..

  • Oldski says:

So, now the real issue is: does Sheriff Hutchens realize she does not work for the board? Does she realize she now holds a higher, countywide office than Moorlach, et al? A state constitutional office, accountable to the citizens? From here on out it is all about her performance in office regardless of how she got there.

  • 18Vetern says:

Brickle and Deputy if you thought Anderson was doing such a good Job then you must really be trying to Kiss His A** but it won;t do any good. Even the BOS saw what a loser he was as thats why he only got ONE vote. GEE guess his No confindence vote from AOCDS meant nothing to as I think only 90 voted for him out of 1800 gee not a overhwelming majority you think. Quit being so Naive AS Anderson CARED nothing for Rank&File.Glad he is out!!!

  • 18Vetern says:

Also if you watch Anderson when he was before the BOS the only time he showed any animation from his usual BORING type of speaking was when he talked about firing Deputies seems he really enjoyed talking about this subject!!!!!!!!!
