Democrats dodge vote on Hoa Van Tran

May 19th, 2008, 8:24 pm · 10 Comments · posted by PEGGY LOWE

democrats.jpgThanks to a last-minute filing of campaign finance amendments, the Hoa Van Tran campaign dodged a vote tonight by the Democratic Central Committee that called for pulling his endorsement. Matt Cunningham has the update here on the campaign finance docs.

I’m hearing from a source at the meeting tonight that Frank Barbaro, the Dem’s honcho, took the vote off the agenda because Van Tran finally complied with the law and cleaned up his report. Then Barbaro ignored calls for a vote in reaction to our story, saying it was out of order.

I’m also hearing Edgardo Reynoso, Van Tran’s campaign manager, made quite a splash at the meeting and arrived with about 20 kids in tow. Van Tran got up and said he was upset that the vote was even on the agenda, but when he was asked a question from the audience, Reynoso told them Van Tran wasn’t taking questions.

“Apparently Edgardo is now running the party,” my source said.

7:30 a.m. update — And for another, um, report on the Democrats’ meeting last night, go to The Liberal OC.

If the committee as a whole voted to endorse Hoa Van Tran last month, why won’t Barbaro allow the committee to vote to reconsider THEIR OWN endorsement?
I believe the chair is out of order.

  2. The Bolsavik Says:

I KNEW IT!! I knew Hoa Van Tran is not allowed to talk on his own!

  3. Sean H. Mill Says:

    Peggy,

Apparently your source isn’t too reliable because Hoa did indeed take questions from the audience. However told you this is a complete bold faced liar.

The young people that showed up at the meeting were volunteers from Hoa’s campaign there to offer their support for Hoa. I cannot believe that Democrats would have such a fit about young minorities getting involved inthe political process.

These are the same folks complaining about the Republicans and their suppression of minorities. Some liberals! Kinda like the Boston libs who rioted when blacks got bussed into their neighborhood schools.

  4. grumpy old dem Says:

I have been told by those who have been courted by Hoa’s campaign that they pay for minors to show up to things like this.

    Those kids were paid.

  5. ocdem1 Says:

Isn’t Edgardo the brother-in-law of Lou Correa? Has anyone asked Lou about all of this?

  6. Salmonloaf Says:

OK, I’ll bite. Tell us Sean how the Hoa situation is just like Boston Busing issue back in the day?

  7. Sean H. Mill Says:

Unfortunately Pedroza was not there so he does not know of what he speaks. Which is par for the course for him.

Since folks are hell bent on profiling the kids let me give you a break down. The overwhelming majority of the youngsters were well dressed Latina’s who are high school students. There were a few Asian young men, also high school students. I believe there was one Latino male with shortly cropped hair.

If these youngsters were “cholos” as Pedroza is claiming, I’d be very surprised.

Pedroza is the “King of Race Baiting” and the “Bully of the Blogosphere”. I find it funny that he has now turned to slurring minority youths in order to further his political agenda. What a phoney and what a hypocrite.

  8. hoa supporter Says:

I am one of the volunteers that showed up and yes I am a latina high school student. I just couldn’t stop laughing at some of the comments made. I am not a chola and it’s funny because none of the people that showed up supporting Hoa were in any way gang affiliated. We are simply young students that are simply volunteering our time to support the best candidate in this election. For the record I was not being paid to be there like all the others. We gave up our own time to be there.
