Hoa Van Tran responds to campaign finance concerns

May 12th, 2008, 3:01 pm · 6 Comments · posted by PEGGY LOWE

I spent some time today with Hoa Van Tran, the Democratic candidate for the First District supes office, and his campaign manager, Edgardo Reynoso.

hoa_speaking.jpgResponding to the many people out there who have, um, raised concerns and filed complaints about his campaign finance reports, Reynoso said he is taking it very seriously and that he has retained a professional treasurer.

“It’s not because we’re doing it on purpose. That’s ridiculous,” Reynoso said. “It’s more of the campaign gaining speed.”

Reynoso said that if amendments must be made to the report, it will be done in a “very short period of time.” He blamed the problems on a former campaign staffer — who he refused to identify — and questioned her loyalty to the Democrats and to “Democratic values.”

“It’s really inappropriate on her part to undermine a campaign she was working on,” Reynoso said.

    Peggy,

I’ve got to ask, did Reynoso do all the talking or did Hoa simply have nothing to add?

Um, they haven’t retained professional Treasurer. They have the same campaign bookkeeper who did the initial report based upon faulty information.

Obfuscaten obfuscate, and obfuscate some more. That is what Renoso has been doing for more than a month now. Reynoso’s claims are without credibility.

If they have indeed replaced Pho Do Nguyen with a “professional treasurer,” when exactly do they intend to file that disclosure. Any change in Treasurer must be reported. Since they have been claiming to have retained a professional treasurer since Bolsavik’s interview (I think it was May 2nd), I believe the ten day reporting period has expired. I do not expect that statement to be filed because I do not believe they have retained a new Treasurer.

I’m curious if the supposed staffer was one of the ladies that Reynoso forced out thanks to his innappropriate and chauvenist attitude to women? Convenient scapegoat Edgardo! I’d question your “democratic values” of equality and anti-harrasement!

  3. The Bolsavik Says:

This is me waiting to hear something from Hoa Van Tran and not Reynoso….

  4. Chris Prevatt Says:

Without Edgar Berdan, Charlie McCarthy could not speak.

Without Edgardo Reynoso, Hoa Van Tran does not speak.

    Any question?

I did get an update after my comment yesterday afternoon. The bookkeeper/accountant Hoa had is no longer with the campaign. It seems that Hoa and Edgardo did not want to turn over the records needed to file amendments.

There is only one reason to change your accountant 2 weeks out from an election when you are under this much scrutiny. You can no longer keep your current accountant in the dark.

Given the way that Reynoso and Tran have used the term accountant and treasurer interchangeably, I’ve got to ask. Is Reynoso bringing on a “professional Treasurer” to replace Phu Do Nguyen, or a new accountant?

In reference to my earlier comment about Edgar and Charlie. For those too young to remember who I am talking about, here is the info on Edgar Bergan and Charlie McCarthy.
