Jurors in the upcoming trial of former Sheriff Mike Carona will hear the now infamous tapes of Carona allegedly conspiring with former Assistant Sheriff Don Haidl to lie to prosecutors.
Among a host of decisions made today, U.S. District Judge Andrew Guilford refused Carona’s request to suppress the tapes. But Guilford also said that federal prosecutors violated an ethical rule that bans them from talking to the subject of an investigation without his attorney present. Guilford suggested that the transgression be reported to the California Bar Association for sanctions.
In a host of rulings, Guilford also granted Debbie Carona’s request to sever her trial from her husband’s but refused to dismiss several counts of the indictment that Carona’s attorneys had fought for.

Of course the tapes can be heard, they were NOT illegally obtained. I’ll bet Carona takes a deal within 90 days to “put this behind” him, just like his pal, Jaramillo.
Don’t, however, paint all of OCSD with such a broad brush. IF I were to do the same thing, CARLOS, I’d say you are uneducated, based on the grammer you used. Just an observation.

A man has got to know his limitations, doesn’t he? If Carona had ever been a real cop, instead of a bailiff, maybe he would know how some of this stuff works. In fact, maybe if he had listened in the courtrooms he worked in he could have learned about the law there also. But no, he was busy. He was watching how important people got their backsides (and other things) kissed and dreaming of how and when it would happen like that for him. I worked for a number of folks at OCSD that led by example and never needed anything kissed, guys like Bill Francis and Jim Guess, those were real leaders. Carona came into an honorable group of people in an honorable profession and look how he’s made the place look. He should be ashamed but he is a shameless empty shell.

Carona was the worst thing that ever happened to the Sheriffs Dept.If Paul Walters would of been elected none ot this would ever had happened. Caron and his two Evil partners in Crime Jaramillo&Heidel destroyed this dept with their greed and evil ways.

It’s a shame they didn’t get lucky and have the entire command staff on tape in one of their “meetings”. Look for an appeal from these pro bono knucklehed publicity driven lawyers who are probably by now wondering how Skippy talked them into it. Bill Hunt is probably thinking: Time for a little what goes around.. HA!

Finally. The entire sheriff’s department knows what is going on. They cover for each other and it leads to more corruption. We finally got a few bad apples but still have hundreds to go. Hopefully useless DA Track is next.

Does this mean you are going to run for Sheriff in 2010 ??? If anyone else read the Orange Juice Blog it appears that Paul might be in some trouble with his finances. I don’t put a lot of faith in what is posted on blogs however it does justify looking just a tad deeper at Paul’s background because I sure as heck don’t want any suprises from our new Sheriff

Not to hijack the thread but I saw the Orange Juice Blog and the Liberal OC blog going at it about Walter’s finances. Pretty funny. Doubt Hunt would run in the 2010 election. I don’t think he likes playing the “politician”. Besides which I hear he is doing pretty well in his new job.

Carona is the same guy he was in 1998, or 1978 for that matter. Even the OCR should have been able to spot the crook from the stories they did from the start on Haidl, Jaramillo and all the shady reserve charactors he brought in. Anyone who kissed their rings since then has no sympathy coming (read: current command staff). Start the trial, off with their heads!

Bravo Judge Andrew Guilford, at least you gave me some
confidence that justice is for ALL and there is justice no matter what kind of expensive lawyer tries to defend !
All the evidences should be admitted no matter how they are
collected as they present the final TRUTH for any legal matter.
The way to deal with how the evidences are obtained can be
challenged after the case is over to preserve the integrity of the justice and the case.
