(UPDATE: I’m out of town for a seminar and apologize for not having gotten the part of the story not included in TheLiberalOC citation below — namely, that OC GOP Chairman Scott Baugh denounced Paul Lucas’ letter as false. Read about it in this Total Buzz item that I subsequently filed.)
Garden Grove Democrat Paul Lucas lent a hand to GOP fixer Mike Schroeder’s effort to defeat Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s reelection effort — but only after Lucas had his own figurative back-alley meeting Nguyen, according to this fascinating post at TheLiberalOC.com. As you may know, Schroeder and Assemblyman Van Tran are political enemies of Nguyen, and are backing Dina Nguyen’s effort to unseat her.
In 2006, when Lucas unsuccessfully challenged Republican Tran for Assembly, Janet Nguyen gave Lucas opposition reasearch on Tran, according to the item. TheLiberalOC backs this up with a letter of admission from Lucas, which was produced at the Monday’s GOP Central Committee meeting in an effort to block the party’s endorsement of Janet Nguyen for reelection. The effort failed and Janet carried the day.
This supervisor’s race just keeps getting better and better.

You left out that Scott Baugh followed up on this and Paul Lucas admitted it was a lie and that Ms. Nguyen gave Paul Lucas nothing. You can find Scott Baugh telling this on Orange Juice Blog

Actually, “Political Observer” is not correct. To Baugh it came down to a “He said/She said” and he dismissed the whole thing since Lucas is Democrat and apparently, according to Baugh, that makes him incapable of telling the truth. Baugh then used the letter as a prop to go into a 5 minute tirade and strongly stated his support for Janet Nguyen while glaring at the committee members - no intimidation there… Of course, like Mike Carona last year, Janet got the endrosement on the 2nd go around as the sheep all voted accordingly…

You do know that Supervisor Nguyen is the ONLY Supervisor who DID NOT endorse Carona, right?
The fact is, if you saw the video of the meeting, at my blog, you saw that Baugh and many others were royally upset with Van Tran and his few followers for trying to take out an incumbent Republican, for NO GOOD REASON.
It is the job of the OC GOP Central Committee to support their candidates. Going against an incumbent over a personal vendetta is not something the OC GOP Central Committee should be doing.
The OC GOP was lucky that Lou Correa vacated his supervisorial seat. And they were lucky that Supervisor Nguyen won the seat. She has done a great job and deserves her upcoming EASY reelection.
