I’m back from a Death Valley vacation. It’s starting to heat up there, but it’s not heating up as quickly as the 71st District Assembly race between Rancho Santa Margarita Councilman Neil Blais (first photo)and Carona Mayor Jeff Miller. Catching up on events, I see there’s sniping over Miller winning the endorsement of the California Republican Assembly. But even more fun is the bickering over Blais’ colored past. The color blue, to be specific.
“It seems Neil just plopped himself down in Orange County in 1997, checked the political landscape, and decided it would be in his best political interest to become a Republican,” said Miller consultant Dave Gilliard.
Not so fast, says Team Blais.
Blais’s press release in response is headlined, “Miller Accuses Blais of ‘Joining’ the Republican Party.”
“Blais is a rock solid conservative and always has been,” said Blaid consultant Tim Clark. “He was a Reagan voter throughout the ’80s and a Bush voter in the ’90s. After realizing that the Republican Party was the party that represented his values, Neil joined the party well over a decade ago.”
That’s Miller in the second photo.
