Democratic candidate to challenge Supervisor Nguyen

January 18th, 2008, 10:14 am · 3 Comments · posted by Martin Wisckol, Politics reporter

Looks like today is a good day for candidates to emerge. I just got an email from the Vietnamese American Democratic Club that Garden Grove attorney and Gulf War vet Hoa Van Tran has thrown his hat in the ring for First District supervisor. Tran is a board member of the Democratic Foundation of Orange County and has been endorsed by that group’s chairman, Wylie Aitken. So it looks like he’s got a head start on being the Democrats’ favorite candidate.

The move also emphasizes the burgeoning influence of Vietnamese Americans in central county politics. Click below for the short press release from the VADC.

PRESS RELEASE

On Jan 15, 2008, Hoa Van Tran a consumer attorney and a Gulf War Army Veteran, has filed his application to run for the first Supervisor District in Orange County against Janet Nguyen and Trung Nguyen. Mr. Tran is a board member of DFOC and the vice president of the Vietnamese American Democratic Club. Mr. Tran came to America as a boat refugee in 1980 after escaped from the Communist. Since then, he has been a 1st district resident. Mr. Tran is married with his two years old daughter and resides in Garden Grove. Tran has been endorsed by Wylie Aitken, Chairman of the Democratic Foundation of Orange County and various support groups within the Democratic Party of Orange County. The DFOC believes that only a viable Vietnamese American Democratic Candidate like Hoa Van Tran can take the seat back for the O.C Democrats in the 1st District.

  1. MAD MAX Says:

    Janet has turned out to be very wishy-washy on most issues and doesn’t seem to follow what is going on in board meetings,however I still must support her and vote for her to keep Trung/Schroder from getting anywhere near the board.

    Mad Max:

    Don’t foreclose your choices yet. From now until the close of filing, there will most likely be many credible candiadtes coming out to challenge Janet Nguyen precisely for the reason you have stated.
    let democracy bloom.

  3. Thong Tran Says:

    Hello , we can have the new supervisor like HOA TRAN .

    He served for our country and a good person to deal every body.

    God bless Hoa and American.
