Just reached Trung Nguyen on his cell phone…he said he’s disappointed by today’s ruling by the state court of appeals. The court said that Team Trung didn’t show any evidence that suggested he had the most votes, no matter what type of recount was done.
“We have no authority to install a candidate into a(n) office who cannot show he obtained the highest number of legal votes in the election,” the court wrote.
Janet won by just three votes last March when an Orange County Superior Court judge ruled in her favor.
“I’m quite disappointed,” Trung Nguyen said. “I haven’t had a chance to read the opinion yet. After I read the opinion, I will see if there are any other options.”
Trung Nguyen is, of course, running against Supe Janet Nguyen in the June election. He’s already announced that. I must say, Janet Nguyen has had two big lucky breaks in the last week. First, Democrat Joe Dunn says he’s not going to run for her First District seat and now, the appeals court victory.
And, at the very end of the court’s opinion, it says Trung Nguyen must pay for the legal costs for both Janet Nguyen and the Registrar of Voters, which was a party in this case.
