Grindle unveils campaign reform plan

Update: Links to documents now work. Sorry for the glitch.

Fresh off her complaint to the attorney general that might have led to Mike Carona’s decision this week to resign as sheriff, county campaign watchdog Shirley Grindle this evening sent out copies of the campaign reform plan she has been working on with Supervisor John Moorlach’s office.

There are three parts:

*A proposed charter amendment to establish a Fair Campaign Practices Commission, which would require voter approval.

* A proposed ordinance that lays out the details of the proposed commision.

* A proposed revision to the county’s existing campaign finance ordinance. (Click below to read.)

I’m going to try make some time tomorrow afternoon to summarize each of these, in case you aren’t eager to wade through them yourself.

Our hats should be off to Shirley for the hard work she has done to get rid of Carona, and that she is using her “fame” to push through much needed reform.
