Carona “still sheriff”, but not on sick leave

December 4th, 2007, 7:00 am · 8 Comments · posted by J. GALLEGO

Indicted Sheriff Mike Carona may be taking a leave of absence, but that doesn’t mean he’s not working.
Carona — in full uniform — attended graduation ceremonies Nov. 15 at Rio Hondo Police Academy, where one Orange County Sheriff’s recruit received his badge.
Carona also is receiving his department mail at home.
“He’s still sheriff. He hasn’t stepped down or stepped aside,” said sheriff’s spokesman Damon Micalizzi, comparing it to being on sick leave. (Except elected officials aren’t supposed to receive sick pay.)

Micalizzi added that Undersheriff Jo Ann Galisky has been running the day-to-day sheriff’s operation  “since before this occurred.”

This guy really has no shame. With the public being fully aware of his federal indictment, he should not even appear in public, much less at official ceremonies

  • Sgt. Rock says:

Carona sure has gall. No doubt about that. What an ego.

  • Retired Officer says:

I bet that deputy was embarrassed that Carona showed up, wearing his uniform no less. He probably would have preferred John Gotti show up instead. What a friggin’ tool.

Contrary to ridicule in the previous postings here, Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, was well received by all. It is good to see that Sheriff Carona can continue with positive resolve during this Firestorm.

This Firestorm ihas been a true test for Sheriff Carona, and it will make him stronger. Sheriff Carona has demonstrated true leadership for the largest law enforcement agency in Orange County and he continues to impressive those around him during this Firestorm.

  • Patrol Deputy says:

I thought department rules and regulations prohibited members from acting in an official capacity while on administrative leave or a leave of absence. Oops….. I forgot laws and regulations don’t apply to Skippy.

  • 20 yeras plus says:

Why would the Sheriff attend Rio Hondo’s graduation but not ours last week?

    I wouldn’t either if I were him.

  • Firestorm or Arson says:

Rich refers to Carona’s unraveling career as a “firestorm” three times, says it will make him stronger and that “he continues to impressive, (impress), those around him.”

What planet are you on Rich? Back here on earth this firestorm or true test as you call it is a back draft from the test he already failed.

You may believe it will make him stronger but if you read the paper or talk to people you know he and his organization is weaker.

He continues to impress those around him? You must be the only one around him?

Your headlights are blinding you from the truth Rich.
