I’ve dug up three pieces of art for the blog today — starting with Plato and then the GOP elephant. But this one gets the blue ribbon.
We’ve talked about Bill Hunt’s ongoing quest to be sheriff, but his current job is as a private eye. This is the cool logo from his PI Web site. I bet Jubal, the Raymond Chandler buff at Red County, will love it. There’s another noir rendering of Hunt on the site as well.
And some interesting descriptions of what he does….

My favorite, predictably, is this service:
Political Opposition Research
Thorough background investigations and detailed reporting on the personal, educational, financial and professional history of political candidates.

I like this little tidbit on the website:
“We place service to our clients above all else.”
Does that mean he will stoop to ANY measure while “investigating” political opponents of his clients? Is this a Watergate hit team for hire?
And this guy wants to be Sheriff? Scary, very scary!
I’m told that at this week’s Sheriff department graduation of deputies that undersheriff Galiski did not speak. Apparently the Sheriff usually addresses the audience and also swears in the new officer’s oath. She was on stage but did not fill in the vacancy left by Carona. Who is in charge there?
If Hunt were to become sheriff hopefully signs of leadership would kick in quickly and based on law enforcement not politics.
The following is also taken directly from Bill Hunt’s website. Sounds like excellent qualifications for Sheriff of Orange County to me:
OC Detectives, Inc. is a private investigations agency owned and operated by Qualified Manager, William J. Hunt. Our investigative specialty is skip tracing and bail forfeiture investigations. We are based in Orange County, California.
Mr. Hunt is a licensed private investigator by the State of California, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. His professional background includes 25 years of law enforcement experience, including three years as a U.S. Army Military Police officer, one year as an Auxiliary Police Officer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and twenty-two years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, where he retired at the rank of Lieutenant.
During his law enforcement career Mr. Hunt gained extensive experience in fugitive tracking and apprehension while working as a patrolman, an investigator assigned to a directed enforcement team targeting career criminals, a narcotics investigator, and as supervisor of the Sheriff’s Department’s gang enforcement unit. His experience also includes security and corrections, criminal investigations, under cover operations, stationary and mobile surveillance techniques, interview and interrogation techniques, report writing, courtroom testimony, SWAT, dignitary protection, case management, supervision and management.
Mr. Hunt’s last assignment with the Sheriff’s Department was Chief of Police Services for the City of San Clemente, California, where he managed the day to day operations of police services including oversight of a $9.8 million dollar budget and management of a staff of 56 personnel. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Business and Management from the University of Redlands and a Masters in Arts from California State University Dominguez Hills in Behavioral Science.
Mr. Hunt’s professional memberships include the California Association of Licensed Investigators, (CALI), The Professional Investigators of California Association, (PICA), The Southern California Fraud Investigators Association, (SCFIA) and the American Society for Industrial Security, International, (ASIS International), the United States Professional Bail Bond Investigators Association, (USPBBIA), and the National Notary Association, (NAA).
It appears Mr Whitacre that Mr. Hunt is supremely qualified to character assassinate political opponents of his clients. By reading the website, one clearly gets the impression that Mr. Hunt will find the dirt on anyone he is hired to check on.
Its unseemly and seedy for a potential candidate for sheriff to be involved in such matters. Just my opinion but I’ll bet it concerns some members of the BOS who might find themselves at odds with the Sheriff at some future date and fear he might use his power to find the dirt on them as well.
Hey Dan I think you might be a little paranoid. The only clear impression I got was that he was primarily involved with fugitive apprehension. They are the ones who should be paranoid. Political opposition research is a side line which practice has been around for a few hundred years at least. How you read that into a few sublines is beyond me.
