Governator: Carona shouldn’t resign state justice panel

November 16th, 2007, 4:10 pm · 13 Comments · posted by J. GALLEGO

The governor is standing by Sheriff Mike Carona — his friend, his ally, his indicted, criminally charged appointee to an important criminal justice panel.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s office said Friday that it has not asked for Carona’s resignation from the California Council on Criminal Justice, even though the feds ousted him from a Homeland Security task force and stripped him of his security clearance.

“We believe Sheriff Carona is able to fulfill his responsibilities on the California Council on Criminal Justice,” said spokesman Aaron McLear.

The  council consists of top law enforcement and justice officials, and reviews funding for anti-crime efforts.

The governor’s confidence comes despite a pronouncement by federal officials that Carona is too busy with his legal woes to concentrate on Homeland Security. Meanwhile , everyone from the Orange County DA to the deputy’s union is calling for Carona to take a leave of absence.

That’s not exactly accurate Tony. I believe T-Rack asked Carona to take a leave of absence, not resign.

    This whole episode just stinks.
You got Corona who at best is pretty slimey.

You got SAPD Chief Paul Walters openly endorsing Corona and allowing his son to work for Corona but now wanting the job.

You have Bill Hunt who according to thee register helped cover for Haild during the pot stop now wanting the OCSD job.

You have T-Rack using the same political advisor’s.

What we need is an OUT OF COUNTY appointment and sheriff. Doesn’t Bratton have someone to clean this pit up?

  • Citizen Observer says:

Having met the Governor I admit he is a hard guy not to like, both as an actor and politician. But his decisions have been 180 degrees wrong at times and he recovers. Like the special election where he spent so much of our money and lost only to say the day after that he hears our voice “loud and clear.”

No doubt after Carona is further revealed the Governor will not suffer or be remembered for hanging in with him so why not hedge his bets.

Thank God Carona can’t say, “I’ll be back.”

THANK YOU GOV. SCHWARZENEGGER for your continued support of Our Sheriff, Michael Carona, during this current Firestorm!

Nice fix on the last sentence JG. I know it was a minor point, but I’m sure it wasn’t so minor to those involved.

  • Peter Ripley says:

How’s about the Governor resigning? And take Carona and is cronies with him. No more bogus issues to just boost his popularity, while betraying every single issue he campaigned on…….

  • Citizen Observer says:

Nov 16, 9:27 PM poster said it all with , “So why not hedge his bets.”

The Gov has taken the safest road instead of being seen as one who piles on. Easy later to simply cut loose.

  • Where are the headlight? says:

Unless this is a night time gesture I’m not seeing headlights on.

Does it work the other way too? All these “Headlights Off” mean people are saying no support?

Thanks White Guy for what you apparently started with one intent and has actually turned out to make a statement for the other side.

    Keep those

  • eric says:

Thank you Arnold! Remember during his campaign when a lot of garbage was thrown at Arnold and it is all dust in the wind now. All untrue. I think Carona will come out of this fine. He is a good man and though so many have tried to tarnish him I think we need to give him a chance to defend himself.

  • Karen A Finn says:

Of course our good old GOV. SCHWARZENEGGER will stand by his guy, and gal’s. He gave all those positions to his wife and whoever Carona knows. (Allegedly of course). People let’s not forget who gave out those high profile board’s position’s. But hey, you want to back men and women like this read? Just read the indictment on-line that should help make your minds up real quick. (Allegedly of course)

What can you expect from a guy who proclaimed Richard Nixon to be his political idol?

  • Joe Holtzman says:

Both men have to consider their actions in real terms.

  • Evening Coffee says:

Let’s see, Carona takes credit for the arrest of Samantha Runnion’s killer and is called “America’s Sheriff”. Governor Schwarzenegger’s wife then wants an exclusive interview with Samantha’s mother who refuses to talk with any media. Carona gets the Governor’s wife her interview. Any questions?
