The Register’s (very busy) Amy Taxin covered the Acting Sheriff Jo Ann Galisky’s presser this afternoon. Here’s her report:
Galisky said she is taking over day-to-day operations along with four assistant sheriffs who work at the department – a management structure already in place under Carona.
“There should be no concern in the public’s mind that eves events have led to any interruption in services,” she said.
Galisky said she didn’t know whether Carona’s leave from the department would be paid.
While she said she was not required to consult with Carona about day-to-day operations, Galisky said she would not hesitate to consult with him if she felt it was important.
“Will I be calling him to make decisions I can make in an organization? No,” she said.
Galisky said the last few days have been difficult for department staff but the main focus now was on moving forward.
“From a professional perspective, we wear a uniform, we wear a badge – this does not change the way we do business,” she said.
Galisky deflected a reporter’s question about whether keeping the same management team at the department might mean keeping power within the circle of those accused of corruption. “Any review of those allegations would show no one in the current administration has been involved in those things,” she said.
Another reporter asked Galisky what she thought about discussion at the county board of supervisors over whether they, instead of Carona, should appoint his replacement.
“If you’re looking to continue that level of service then I think you go with the management structure that has been in place a number of years,” she said.

Galisky claims Carona wouldn’t have any inclination to affect her decisions. Is she a ‘tard? How long has she been a boss? You don’t think the first big controversial case comes along she wont be getting ’suggestions’ from Mikey. Dream on newbie boss. We all know how you got your ‘promotions’. You have that same smell about you all the other big bosses have.
To News crews, Board of Supes, Todd Spitzer, and all concerned,
I am very disappointed that a Sheriff can pick his own Interim Sheriff. That is what this is. Taking it out of the hands of the Supes, and putting it on the Sheriff whose record is already tarnished. I had to work today or I would have been there in a heart-beat. I am just very disappointed that Orange County is going down is a way like we have never seen it before. I have spoken before on these issues and was I not right? I guess it if it does not happen then it will be a re-call. Trust me that now will not be hard to get. They should have put Lt. Bill Hunt back to full duty and put him in there as interim for our men and women in uniform. Very disappointed in the ones that voted against it.

Dear Friends, Family,& Radio and News,
Orange County California awoke this morning to news of our sheriff being indicted on federal corruption charges. This was news to most but long wished for and expected by many.
Deputy Lieutenant Bill Hunt, a good man, ran against Mike Carona a little more than one year ago. By a fraction of a voting percentage, Bill Hunt nearly forced the sheriff into a run-off. Voters new something was wrong with the sheriff, but not quite enough, then!
Please join me in suggesting the Orange County Supervisors appoint Bill Hunt as our interim Sheriff. His track record and opposition to Carona is timely, needed, and healing.
If there was ever a time to cut / paste / and forward, this is one………
