So what’s the major sticking point between the deputies union and the county? Looks like it’s the same one that was a problem last year — the supes’ desire to get an outside audit of the union’s multi-million dollar health insurance fund.

I talked to Mark Nichols about that Friday night. The general manager of the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs said the county has asked for a “laundry list” of things, including the audit, which the union has agreed to hand over.

“All the information they are requiring we have said we would provide,” Nichols said.

The supes will be discussing the deputies contract again tomorrow behind closed doors with their lawyers. The two days of negotiations last week didn’t go well.
