Team Trung Nguyen, led by lawyer Mike Schroeder, today continued its ongoing barrage of legal action against county Supervisor Janet Nguyen (photo). As I’ve said before, all of these complaints and lawsuits have a two-pronged attack. There could actually be a ruling against Janet, which wouldn’t help her reelection effort. But even if she prevails, it’s going to cost her precious campaign funds to defend herself. Schroeder, meanwhile, is volunteering his services on behalf of Trung, who has declared his intention to take another run at Janet in next year’s election.

Today, a complaint was filed with Attorney General Jerry Brown (who, ironically, Schroeder attempted unsuccessfully to have removed from office). It wants Nguyen prosecuted for perjury on the grounds that she lied when she said she returned a stack of illegal contributions. The basis of that lie: She signed a campaign disclosure saying they had been returned, but the complaint says that the checks bounced.

(Janet solicted funds for a legal defense account managed by her attorney, Phil Greer. Weeks after it became public that such an account was illegal, Greer and Janet announced they were returning the money.)
